Many of these stories are autobiographical in nature and some are woven into Tom Macdonald's novels, The White Lanes of Summer and 'The Road to Tomorrow'. Stories nos 85, 86, 90, 106, 113 and 119 were broadcast by the BBC, 1965-79 and n.d. Stories nos 87a and 126 were published in a magazine. There are letters from the publishers on the dorse of some of the stories, concerning the publication of 'The Three Villages' (no. 70), 'No Bread on Table Mountain' (no. 84), 'The Little Goat' and 'Boomerang' (no. 122). There are extracts from other works by the author on the dorse of some stories, namely ' God's Secret' (nos 101, 118), 'Skolly' (112) and an article on the Roman goldmines (122).
