A volume of notebooks of Robert Williams, rector of Llanbedrycennin, Tal-y-cafn, Caernarvonshire (author of 'The History of Charlemagne', Cymmrodor, vol. XX, 1907), containing material towards a glossary of Welsh words taken largely from Thomas Powel: Ystorya de Carolo Magno ([London], 1883). Inset is an autograph letter, 1922, from the Reverend J. Bodvan Anwyl ('Bodfan'), Aberystwyth, to Robert Williams.

The fonds comprises the literary and personal papers of Glyn Jones, 1814-1995 (with gaps), including manuscript and typescript drafts of poetry and prose works by him, related correspondence and press cuttings, radio scripts, talks and readings and adjudications. Also included are notes and articles pertaining to Glyn Jones, general correspondence and notebooks; various papers relating to members of his family; and works by other writers.

Manuscript and typescript drafts, [1970s]-[1995], by Glyn Jones of his unfinished poem 'Seven Keys to Shaderdom', on which the version published in The Collected Poems of Glyn Jones, ed. by Meic Stephens (Cardiff, 1996), pp. 111-131, was based.
The published poem consists of seven sections with a prose Prologue, represented in the manuscript by multiple drafts (ff. 1-202, 208-224). Section I was previously published as 'Shader's Vision' in Poetry Wales 19.3 (1984), 51-2, the Prologue and Sections I-III appeared as 'Prologue and Three Fragments' in Glyn Jones, Selected Poems, Fragments and Fictions (Ogmore-by-Sea, 1988), pp. 133-144, and Section V was published in Poetry Wales 28.2 (October 1992), 18-19. The manuscript also includes other material including drafts and fragments of other poems, notes, images and completed lines (ff. 203-207, 225-279). Some leaves re-use miscellaneous letters, newsletters, television drama scripts and other papers. A self-portrait sketch in ink by Jones is on f. i verso.

Deeds and documents relating to the Glynllifon estate, 1465-[1st half 20 cent.]; rentals and estate accounts, 1664, 1780-1787; and family correspondence, 1657-1845, mainly the correspondence of Thomas Wynn, 1st Lord Newborough, and Spencer Bulkeley Wynn, 3rd Lord Newborough. There are also a group of letters from a William Cardell Beattie from Caernarfon goal.

Estate records, including deeds and documents, 1304-1887, relating to the estates of the Glynnes in Flintshire and elsewhere. The first three centuries covered by the deeds relate largely to the Ravenscroft family, their property, and their legal transactions. A large body of the documents relate to the period when Sir John Glynne, 6th bart., was the occupier of the estate. Other estate records include accounts, rentals, estate, household, and personal accounts, inventories, election expenses, colliery accounts, lists of charities distributed, estate maps, plans, surveys, bills, vouchers, etc., 1690-1872, including rentals of the lordship of Hawarden, 1686-1886. -- Amongst the personal papers are the diaries and account books of Sir John Glynne, 1753-1757, the diaries of the Rev. Stephen Glynne, 1798-1824, Mary Glynne, afterwards Lady Lyttelton, 1824-1831, Stephen Richard Glynne, 1825-1874, and W. H. Gladstone whilst at Eton College, 1856-1857; travel journals through North Wales, 1824, South Wales, 1824, Scotland, 1839, Germany, Italy, France, Spain, Switzerland, Belgium, Greece and Austria, 1834-1866, Turkey, 1848, Egypt, 1850, and Palestine, 1850. -- The archive also includes election papers such as lists of voters, canvass returns, accounts, relating to Flintshire elections, 1727-1837, letters written by and to members of the Glynne family and to Gladstone; notes on history, genealogy and ecclesiology; ships' log-books, 1727-1730 and 1734-1739. -- A separate group of legal papers which belonged to a lawyer named Dovey, relate mainly to bankrupts, and their immediate relevance to the Glynne family is not very obvious.
