A collection which comprises mainly of papers relating to North Wales quarries, including union rules, minutes, bank pass books, correspondence, circulars, deeds, etc.; also included are papers of the musician Richard Samuel Hughes, a manuscript possibly in the hand of Samuel Angier (1639-1713), addresses and lectures, sermons, a bibliography, journals, an autobiography, correspondence, poetry and miscellaneous notes, transcripts and extracts by W. J. Parry, together with poetry by other authors and correspondence, and notes relating to W. J. Parry's work on Rowland Williams ('Hwfa Môn').

Deeds and documents (1668-1882) relating to properties mainly in in co. Flint (Axton, Bistre, Caergwrle, Coleshill, Cwm, Cwm Uwchglan, Diserth, Estyn or Hope, Hawarden, Holywell, Hope, Hope Owen, Huriathicke, Kilken, Kinnerton, Mould, Newmarket, Northop, St Asaph, Shordley, Skeiviog, and Whitford), but also in cos Denbigh (Denbigh, Henllan, Llanrwst and Lleweny), Chester (Chester and Dodleston), Brecknock (Devynnock), Anglesey (Amlwch, Coedana, Llanerchymedd, Llanbadrug, Llanddyfnan, Llanfechell and Llanfihangel Tre'r Beurdd), Montgomery (Berth Lloyd) and Pembroke (Amroth). The main families were Mostyn of Mostyn Hall and Hope of Broughton and Hope.

The fonds consists of personal papers and correspondence, 1826-1967, of members of the family of Rees Jenkin Jones, namely the Rev. John Jones (1802-1863), Mrs Anne Griffith Jones (1852-1899), Dr Goronwy Jones (1881-1945), the Rev. Simon Jones (1879-1967) and the Rev. Rees Jenkin Jones (1835-1924) himself, together with estate records, 1620-1916, of the Clettwr estate, Cardiganshire, Cilgell Isaf estate, Carmarthenshire, and of premises in Aberdare, Glamorgan. Much of the material relates to the Unitarian cause in Wales.

Manuscripts comprising drafts of the hitherto-unpublished portions of Edward Owen's Catalogue of manuscripts relating to Wales in the British Museum, with draft indexes; reports prepared by Edward Owen on Liverpool Town Dues and related papers, 1931; essays written by him for the London Eisteddfod, 1887, and the National Eisteddfod at Caernarfon, 1894; notes, pedigrees, transcripts and letters relating to Welsh history, antiquities, county history, families and individuals such as John Edwards of Chirk, and historical figures including Owain Glyndwr [some items published 1893-1935]; transcripts and extracts relating to the history of Wales taken from public records by Edward Owen, E.A. Lewis and others, including several land surveys, at least one of which was used as evidence before the Royal Commission on Land in Wales, 1895; transcripts of papers by or relating to Alfred Neobard Palmer, Wrexham, 1885-1922; facsimiles and original documents including Privy Purse Accounts of Queen Anne, 1702-1710, and a holograph letter from Queen Anne to Sarah, duchess of Marlborough, 1710; letters mainly addressed to William Edwards of Chirk Hall, 1675-1677; autograph letters, mostly addressed to Edward Owen, 1886-1943; and deeds, 1463-1769, the majority of which relate to the estates of the families of Edwards of Plas Newydd and Puleston of Emrall in cos. Denbigh and Flint.

The fonds comprises the papers of Robin Reeves including general subject files, 1967-1987; files concerning subjects of Welsh interest, 1973-1999; files concerning political subjects, 1974-1995; files relating to various organisations, societies, public bodies, newspapers etc., 1975-1996; files relating to various geographical areas in Wales, the British Isles and overseas, 1972-1995; files reflecting his literary interests and activities, 1978-1999; and miscellaneous papers, 1962-2001.

The 1939 deposit consists of deeds and documents, 1549-1887, relating to properties in Montgomeryshire, Merionethshire, Breconshire and Shropshire. The 1973 deposit mainly contains deeds and documents, 1564-1932, relating to properties in Montgomeryshire, many relating to the Lloyd family of Montgomery. The 1979 deposit comprises materials gathered by J. D. K. Lloyd for a History of Montgomery; a bundle of deeds and documents, [19 cent.]-[20 cent.], relating to the family of Lloyd of Plas Trefaldwyn, Montgomery, and Castell Forwyn, Abermule; photographic albums, 1898-1978, comprising mainly family photographs; a collection of over 1000 postcards and photographs of historic buildings throughout Europe; and seven manuscript maps of land in Montgomeryshire, 1772-1858.

The fonds comprises records, 1983-1993, relating to the implementation of the national curriculum in England and Wales pursuant to the provisions of the 1988 Education Reform Act. The records were accumulated by Hywel I. Evans as chair of the Curriculum Council for Wales, and as a member of other committees which were responsible for the implementation of the national curriculum in Wales and England.

Rhiwlas estate records, [c. 1563], 1609-1888, including deeds, 1609-1888; rentals, 1796-1855; legal papers, [c. 1563], [c. 1632]-1847, including papers relating to a 19th century dispute about diverting the river Meloch; family and personal papers, 1631-1937, including family trust papers relating to the estate of Thomas Jones (d. 1819), rector of Derwen, Montgomeryshire, and brother-in-law of Richard Watkin Price; non-family trust papers relating to the estate of John Lloyd of Wigfair and Hafodunos; and letters, mainly from the first half of the 19th century, mainly to Richard Watkin Price.

Papers mainly relating to the published work of Herbert Stanley Jevons, 1895-1963, correspondence on overseas development, coal and economics, 1909-1949; correspondence on housing in Wales, 1912-1914; papers relating to Ethiopia, 1935-1955, including correspondence with Emperor Haile Selassie I, 1937-1953; letters between Herbert Stanley Jevons and John Maynard Keynes, 1930-1936.

The catalogued material comprises two groups of deeds and other documents relating to lands of the Bodwenni and Syrior estates in Merionethshire, Denbighshire and Montgomeryshire, and to the Roberts, Williams and Evans families of Bodwenni and Syrior, [13th century]-1833; miscellaneous literary manuscripts, [16th century]-[19th cenury]; and printed material. Uncatalogued material includes deeds, family papers and correspondence, 1609-1953.

Title deeds relating to the Briton Ferry estate, 1627-1879, mainly in the parishes of Aberavon, Baglan, Briton Ferry, Llantwit-iuxta-Neath, Llansamlet, Michaelstone, Glamorganshire, together with probate records, marriage settlements, etc.

The papers comprise correspondence files, 1918-1982, among them general and political letters to Goronwy Roberts and constituency correspondence; subject files, 1913-1981, including papers concerning foreign affairs (some deriving from Goronwy Roberts's trips abroad), domestic politics, Welsh politics and matters relating to Wales, and files of material concerning Caernarfonshire; various personalia, 1918-1982; and miscellaneous papers, 1900-1997, including printed items and press cuttings.

The papers donated by Lord Cledwyn of Penrhos in five groups between 1990 and 1997 comprise Lord Cledwyn's diaries, 1970-1978; his engagement diaries, 1966-1984; general correspondence files, 1956-1997; subject files, 1958-1997, including papers relating to Welsh affairs, 1962-1997, and to the Parliamentary Labour Party, 1968-1979; constituency papers, 1955-1996; speech notes, 1952-1979; and printed matter, 1945-1997. The material includes correspondence addressed mainly to William Owen Pughe, from prominent contemporary antiquarian and literary figures, including Edward Williams (Iolo Morganwg), Owen Jones (Owain Myfyr), Theophilus Jones, Richard Llwyd, Sir Richard Colt Hoare, Richard Fenton, Thomas Pennant and Edward (Celtic) Davies; manuscripts in the hand of William Owen Pughe, Iolo Morganwg and others, including Owen Pughe's translations of the Mabinogion; manuscripts and printed papers relating to the Gwyneddigion Society, the Cymreigyddion Society and the Cymmrodorion; diary of William Owen Pughe, 1811-1835; and transcripts of unpublished letters and papers, 1792-1820, of the writer and prophet Joanna Southcott.

The papers of Sir Clough Williams-Ellis, comprising material relating to his architectural projects, including the village of Portmeirion and the Voelas, Bodnant and Brondanw estates, 1907-1978; papers, minutes and agendas, 1930-1977, of the Council for the Protection of Rural England, the Council for the Protection of Rural Wales and the Advisory Committee on the Landscape Treatment of Trunk Roads; speeches given by Clough Williams-Ellis at various meetings; articles and reviews published by him in newspapers, journals and magazines, and articles published by others on his works; correspondence concerning articles to the press, his publications, fixtures, invitations to various meetings and dinners, letters from architects, artists and other prominent figures; letters, cards and other papers relating to landmarks in his life, such as the conferring of a CBE and knighthood and the celebration of birthdays and his diamond wedding anniversary; and drafts of autobiographies and other writings, 1952-1978.

The archive described here comprises papers formerly known as the Roland Mathias MSS (originally placed on deposit at NLW and converted to a donation in 1994), together with donations, 1993-2003. It includes mostly correspondence, and papers relating to The Anglo-Welsh Review, his literary works, and professional career as a teacher and headmaster. Also included is a group of personal and family papers, together with works by Dora Polk.
