Edward Thomas letters to O. M. Edwards
Twelve letters, 1900-1902, from Edward Thomas to Sir Owen M. Edwards, his erstwhile tutor at Lincoln College, Oxford, written shortly after Thomas had left university, their main purpose being to ask for guidance in seeking employment; they also reflect his attachment to Wales and his interest in the Welsh language.

Edward Thomas letters to Jesse Berridge
Seventy-six letters, 1901-1917, from the poet Edward Thomas to his friend, the Rev. Jesse Berridge, containing personal and family news and references to the progress of his work (ff. 1-102; see The Letters of Edward Thomas to Jesse Berridge, ed. by Anthony Berridge (London, 1983); for letter no. 63 in the series see NLW MS 10617B).
Also included are transcripts of two letters from the poet to Mrs Edna Berridge, 1912 (ff. 103-104); one letter, [1940s], to Jesse Berridge from Helen Thomas, the poet's widow (f. 123), and two letters, 1957-1961, and a card, [?1950s], from Eleanor Farjeon (ff. 125, 127-128 verso), together with related papers, notably Berridge's draft of his short memoir of Edward Thomas, 1947 (ff. 106-111; see Letters, pp. 84-90), a typescript address, 1985, by R. George Thomas (ff. 131-134) and press cuttings, 1907-1978 (ff. 135-144), including articles by Helen Thomas, 1962-1963 (ff. 139-142). The collection also contains sketches by Edward Thomas, 1902 (f. 24 recto-verso), and references to W. H. Davies, 1905 (f. 52 recto-verso), Gordon Bottomley, 1907 (ff. 56, 58), Robert Frost, 1957 (f. 127), and to the First World War, 1915-1917 (ff. 92-102), together with a copy of a letter, 1947, to Rowland L. Watson, secretary of the Edward Thomas Memorial Committee (f. 105).

The papers comprise: (i) proofs, drafts and related correspondence of Julian Thomas, 1917-1938; (ii) proofs of Edward Thomas, The Last Sheaf (London, 1928) with corrections [?in the hand of Julian Thomas]; (iii) papers, 1935-1937, relating to the Edward Thomas Memorial Fund; (iv) typescript copies, [1938], of letters (1897-1916) of Edward Thomas to David ('Dad') Uzzell; (v) printed books, periodicals, offprints and cuttings, 1913-2011, mostly relating to Edward Thomas; (vi) family photographs; (vii) five photographs of Reginald Thomas, together with an official message of sympathy on his death from Winston Churchill, Secretary of State for War, [1918], and the 'King's Message' accompanying the Memorial Plaque (see xvi); (viii) some fifteen family postcards, 1929-1992; (ix) passport, 1931-1938, of Edward Eastaway Thomas; (x) miscellaneous photographs and papers of David Christopher T. Thomas, R.N.V.R., 1941-1946; and (xi-xiii) three notebooks of [?D. C. T.] Thomas, [1940s]. Also included are: (xiv) a first edition copy of Edward Thomas, The South Country (London, 1909), inscribed by him on the half-title page 'To Father & Mother 15.XI.09', with a few further annotations in pencil in a different hand; (xv) a Morocco leather case containing a sepia photograph, [1916x1917], of Corporal Edward Thomas in uniform; (xvi) the bronze Next of Kin Memorial Plaque issued to Reginald Thomas' family following his death; and (xvii) a stamp containing the monogram 'MH' or 'HM' in a case decorated with a rose design.

A copy of the second edition of Edward Parry, Royal Visits and Progresses to Wales ... (London, 1851), to the margins of which have been added over eight hundred coats of arms, coloured by hand, of persons and families mentioned in the text. There is also a manuscript index to the coats of arms.

Edward Owen, Warrington, letters
Nine letters, 1782-1784, from [the Rev.] E[dward] Owen of Warrington, schoolmaster and translator, to John Blackburne, Chester, mainly concerning points of difficulty in translating Classical Latin authors.
Owen comments on the works of Livy (ff. 1, 3 recto-verso, 5 recto-verso, 7 recto-verso), Horace (ff. 9-10, 12) and Catullus (ff. 12-13, 14-15). He also discusses a variety of subjects including Roman land measurement (f. 1 recto-verso), Roman coins (ff. 1 verso, 3 verso-4), Roman numerals (f. 16) and the arrangement of rowers in Roman ships (ff. 16 verso-17). Although apparently living in Chester at this time, John Blackburne's family owned Orford Hall, near Warrington, and he was elected MP for Lancashire in 1784.

Lewis and others, including several land surveys, at least one of which was used as evidence before the Royal Commission on Land in Wales, 1895; transcripts of papers by or relating to Alfred Neobard Palmer, Wrexham, 1885-1922; facsimiles and original documents including Privy Purse Accounts of Queen Anne, 1702-1710, and a holograph letter from Queen Anne to Sarah, duchess of Marlborough, 1710; letters mainly addressed to William Edwards of Chirk Hall, 1675-1677; autograph letters, mostly addressed to Edward Owen, 1886-1943; and deeds, 1463-1769, the majority of which relate to the estates of the families of Edwards of Plas Newydd and Puleston of Emrall in cos. Denbigh and Flint.
