Twelve letters, 1852-1888, of the Phillips family of Ferwig, Cardiganshire, including ten, 1852-1857, in Welsh, from Joseph Phillips, an emigrant to America, sent from Utica and New York City, New York, to his wife Harriet in Ferwig (ff. 1-13).
Also included is a letter, in Welsh, from Joseph Phillips in San Francisco, California, to a cousin, 5 July 1858 (ff. 14-15), a letter, in English, from John Phillips (son of Joseph and Harriet), Newton Abbot, Devon, to his siblings, 15 April 1888 (ff. 17-18), and a note of Joseph Phillips' New York address, [1853x1858] (f. 16).

Letters, 1850-1864, mainly in Welsh and mostly from Henry Jones (1824-1852), 1850-1851, who emigrated to Holland Patent, New York, in 1850 (see Y Cenhadwr Americanaidd, 13.12 (December 1852)), and his sister, Mary Jones (1831-1861), c. 1855-1861, who emigrated to Ballarat, New South Wales, in 1856, addressed to members of their family in Llanfihangel-y-Pennant, Merionethshire. Also included (ff. 39-40) are verses by Mary Jones, entitled Hiraeth am Fy Ngwlad, printed after her death.

Some thirty letters, 1925-1940, from the Dutch scholar Theodor Max Chotzen to Dr E. D. Jones. Written mainly in Welsh, they contain personal news, details of the writer's publications, references to contemporary Welsh scholars, and observations on political events in Wales. Also included is a letter, 1946, from his widow containing information concerning her husband's imprisonment by the Germans and subsequent death on 27 February 1945.
