Papers of Arthur John Williams, 1881-1943, including political papers comprising letters, 1868-1911; papers relating to legal, electoral and land reforms, 1867-1911; papers relating to his parliamentary elections in Birkenhead and Glamorgan, 1880-1895; papers relating to South Glamorgan politics, 1886-1924; material concerning the National Liberal Club, 1883-1951; diaries, 1864-1911; diaries of Rose Harriette Thompson Crawshay 1868-1943; and family and financial papers, 1767-1943.

Manuscripts once held in the library of Plas Llanstephan, Carmarthenshire. The collection comprises mainly transcripts from medieval Welsh manuscripts such as the Red Book of Hergest, the Black Book of Carmarthen and the Red Book of Talgarth which include poetry, triads, pedigrees, arms, lives of saints, Brut y Brenhinedd, Brut y Tywysogion, the Laws of Hywel Dda, etc.; grammars and vocabularies; translations, mainly from Latin and English sources; proverbs; theological tracts; medical recipes; etc. The earliest of the manuscripts date from the thirteenth to the fifteenth centuries. Most of the manuscripts are in the hands of Moses and Samuel Williams, with other scribes including Dr John Davies, Mallwyd, Dr John David Rhys, William Maurice, 'Iaco ab Dewi', Edward Lhuyd and William Owen-Pughe.

Records of the Peterwell and Falcondale estates of the Harford family, in Cardiganshire and Carmarthenshire, including Peterwell estate papers, 1696-1963, including deeds, accounts, surveys and valuations; Lampeter Town estate papers, 1868-1954, Tresaith estate papers, 1886-1975, Blaise Castle estate papers, 1834-1938; and manorial records relating to the borough of Lampeter, 1741-1848.

Important mediæval manuscripts and later literary and historical manuscripts, [12 cent, first ½]-[late 19 cent.], reflecting the collecting interests of the Maurice and Owen families of Clenennau and Brogyntyn.
They include an important mid-fifteenth century miscellany of prose and verse in Middle English (Brogyntyn MS II.1); English and Welsh poetry; plays; astrology and prophecies; chronicles of the history of Britain, one of which is a thirteenth century version of Historia Regum Britanniæ of Geoffrey of Monmouth (Brogyntyn MS I.7); a lute book, [c. 1595] (Brogyntyn MS I.27); a copy of the laws of Hywel Dda [1625x1632] (Brogyntyn MS I.12); legal precedents and other papers of legal interest in Latin and English; pedigrees, genealogy and heraldry of North and South Wales families; religious treatises, prayers, devotions and sermons; a seventeenth-century Latin-Welsh dictionary and other manuscripts of linguistic interest; extracts from classical literature; commonplace books; academic notes; copies of significant historical letters and documents; political tracts; moralistic and philosophical works; memoranda, journals and private papers of members of the Anwyl and Owen families; a few Brogyntyn estate and trust papers, 1727-1792; and notes on public offices and official papers deriving from the administration of Oswestry Corporation, 1660, 1673. Some ancilliary materials, [19 cent, second ½]-[1960s], mostly correspondence and notes relating to individual manuscripts, are also included (MSS I.27a, II.1a, II.10a, II.22a, II.42a, II.54(h), II.56a).

An additional group of records, 1904-1939, were received per Dr David Steeds comprising extensive files of correspondence, the minutes of the Association and its various committees and sub-committees, financial material, press cuttings and printed material. There are also many files deriving from the parliamentary general elections campaigns of the period 1906-29 in Montgomeryshire. There are also papers relating to the North Wales Liberal Federation, 1940-46, and the Liberal Federation of Wales, 1943-45. The records cover the period when David Davies, Llandinam (1880-1944) was the Liberal MP for Montgomeryshire, 1906-29, and the early years of its representation by his successor E. Clement Davies (1884-1962). This group remains uncatalogued.

The archive does not include any papers relating to his public life.

Papers, [1730x1893], of the Roberts family of Llanbrynmair and of the Howell family of Bontdolgadfan, Llanbrynmair and comprising mainly correspondence, together with sermons, broadsides and miscellanea. The material was preserved by David Howell, Machynlleth and Aberdyfi, cousin of the Reverend Samuel Roberts ('S.R.') and father of the donor, Joseph Matthew Howell.

Papers, 1830-1930, of or relating to John Thomas (Pencerdd Gwalia), including original musical manuscripts, mainly compositions and arrangements for the harp, 1853-1905; correspondence mainly relating to his concerts, compositions and travels, and to musical circles in London and Wales, 1842-1930; journals of European concert tours, 1851-1883; concert programmes, 1851-1905; papers of his wife, Joan Frances Thomas, 1878-1926, including tour journals, 1878-1883; and passports, 1873, 1885.

The papers comprise music manuscripts of the composer and viola player Kenneth Harding (1903-1992), comprising scores and instrumental parts of orchestral works, chamber music, songs and a number of works for the viola.

The records reflect the activities and research projects sponsored by the Institute of Welsh Affairs, 1982-2001, and they comprise administrative files, 1982-1990 and 1995-1998; project files, 1995-2001; reports and surveys, including draft and interim reports, 1987-1995, including many, 1992-1993, concerning the 2010 Project; records, 1986-2000, relating to the organisation of the St Davids Forum; and papers, 1996-2001, deriving from the preparation and publication of the Gregynog Papers.

Further papers of the Institute of Welsh Affairs comprising an assortment of project files and interesting documents largely on devolution and policy themes. This tranch remains uncatalogued. Also received were three large boxes of printed material and a small box of electronic material.

The material includes a draft autobiography of Robert Ellis; an introduction written for a collection of Ellis's work under the proposed title Mwyar Berwyn; a draft of part of the first chapter of a biography of John Williams, Baptist minister (Llangollen, 1871); notes for Esboniad ar y Testament Newydd Cyfrol III (Llangollenn, 1878); poetry; diaries, 1840-1866; correspondence, 1833-1875; sermons; lectures; essays; adjudications at eisteddfodau, [1860x1875]; and miscellaneous notes, transcripts and extracts. The collection also includes letters, 1835-1856, of John Williams, Baptist minister; a rental, 1725-1726, of the estate of Watkin Williams Wynn; commonplace books of John Davies, Pentrefoelas, Griffith Williams (Gutyn Peris) and others, together with further collections of miscellany in seventeenth and eighteenth century hands; and autograph sermons by Christmas Evans.
