This collection comprises forty petitions submitted by various ratepayers and parishes to county magistrates, expressing both opposition to and support for the proposed erection of a joint "lunatic asylum". Included are printed agreements concerning the establishment of the asylum, along with correspondence regarding the proposed site. A letter from the Clerk of the Peace Office in Stafford is accompanied by a county's asylum map layout . The collection also contains several drafts of meeting minutes, letters, and attendance records related to the proposed joint asylum for the counties of Carmarthen, Cardigan, Glamorgan, and Pembroke. the collection also includes a draft agreement dated 17 June 1847, approved by committees, for the union of Carmarthen, Glamorgan, and Pembroke for the construction of the asylum, followed by a formal agreement dated 4 August 1847. Additionally is a that bundle that contains draft agreements for the sale and purchase of land in the parishes of Swansea and Llansamled, including a 1000-year lease of the Danygraig Fawr estate in Glamorgan. There are also Legal documents titled case for the opinion of Mr. E. R. Williams on the interpretation of clauses 8 and 9 of 9 Vic. c.126, and the response of William Llewellyn to a bill of complaint filed by John Austin on 22 March 1861.

Laid down on the inside upper cover are printed conditions of sale, witnessed by David Williams, clerk to the Board of Guardians [of the Tregaron Union].
