A volume, [early 19 cent.]-1851, used as a letter book by William Williams of Carne [Carnecoch], Llanwnda, Pembrokeshire. The volume contains copies of letters, September 1834-March 1842 (pp. 325-447), March 1842-June 1843 (pp. 457-473) and June 1843-April 1851 (pp. 45-264), mainly concerning the rents, tenancies, repairs and management of the estates of D. Davies and the Rev. Edward Jones in the parishes of Little Newcastle, Dinas and St Davids, Pembrokeshire, and the estate of Mrs Amy Skeel and Mrs. Williams (mother of William Williams) in Kibworth Harcourt, Leicestershire.
Also in the hand of William Williams are farm accounts [?for Carnecoch], October 1832-August 1833 (pp. 40-43). The volume also contains, in a different hand, [early 19 cent.], miscellaneous extracts, notes and memoranda, including medical, veterinary and domestic recipes (pp. 2-38, 448-455, 475-479), extracts from John [sic] Claude's observations on the composition of sermons (see Jean Claude, An Essay on the Composition of a Sermon, translated from the original French by Robert Robinson, 2 vols (Cambridge, 1778-1779, ESTC T138627)) (pp. 267-307), and 'Concerning the time when Christianity was first preached in Great Britain, and by whom' (pp. 309-323).

Letter book, 1846-1850, of H[er] M[ajesty's] S[team] S[loop] 'Geyser' containing copies of letters, Nov. 1846-May 1850 (ff. 1 verso-131), and memoranda, June-Dec. 1847 (ff. 179-180), sent by her commander, F[rancis] T[homas] Brown, mainly to his superiors.
The 'Geyser' was employed in famine relief in Western Ireland, Jan.-Apr. 1847 (ff. 6-34), and at the port of Setubal and elsewhere in Portugal during the Patuleia Revolt, June-July 1847 (ff. 43-52). She was subsequently stationed in the Cape Colony (South Africa) and Mauritius, Nov. 1847-May 1850 (ff. 63-131), and was sent on diplomatic missions, meeting with local chiefs and rulers in Madagascar and the Comoros Islands (ff. 81-102). The letters range from brief memoranda to lengthy reports and letters of proceedings; they include references to routine ship business and disciplinary matters, intelligence reports and accounts of diplomacy and treaty negotiations. Two additional copy letters have been pasted into the volume (ff. 119a, 122a).
