A volume of manuscript notes with insets (mostly newspaper cuttings, a few letters, etc.) compiled by Ionawryn Williams [of Manchester and Bethesda], and consisting mainly of biographical data relating to Welshmen who had resided in or been connected with the city of Manchester or the neighbourhood in the nineteenth century, including such figures as Robert Jones Derfel, the Reverend William James , and John Jones ('Poet Jones'), etc. A few of the entries refer to the compiler's previously published work on Manchester Welshmen entitled [Geirlyfr bywgraffiadol yn cynhwys byr-hanes y Cymry mwyaf adnabyddus fuont yn preswylio yn Manceinion, Salford, 1896]. The volume also contains an account of attempts to form a Welsh [literary] society in Manchester in 1835. Amongst the insets is a long autograph letter from R[ichard] J[ones] Berwyn, Trerauson Chwbut [sic] [Patagonia], to Ionawryn Williams, [18]97 ( a reply to a request for information concerning Thomas Penant Evans ('Twmi Dimol'), who had been one of the emigrants who had sailed to Patagonia in the Mimosa in 1865), and a short holograph note from the same writer to [Ionawryn Williams], undated (giving a few autobiographical details).

The material includes a draft autobiography of Robert Ellis; an introduction written for a collection of Ellis's work under the proposed title Mwyar Berwyn; a draft of part of the first chapter of a biography of John Williams, Baptist minister (Llangollen, 1871); notes for Esboniad ar y Testament Newydd Cyfrol III (Llangollenn, 1878); poetry; diaries, 1840-1866; correspondence, 1833-1875; sermons; lectures; essays; adjudications at eisteddfodau, [1860x1875]; and miscellaneous notes, transcripts and extracts. The collection also includes letters, 1835-1856, of John Williams, Baptist minister; a rental, 1725-1726, of the estate of Watkin Williams Wynn; commonplace books of John Davies, Pentrefoelas, Griffith Williams (Gutyn Peris) and others, together with further collections of miscellany in seventeenth and eighteenth century hands; and autograph sermons by Christmas Evans.

Cynnydd Llanbedr Pont Steffan,
A holograph essay on 'Cynydd a gwelliant Llanbedr [Pont Steffan] yn ystod y 15 mlynedd diweddaf (1863-1878)' [the development and improvement of Lampeter, co. Cardigan, during the period 1863-1878] by 'Ap Tulas' [Dan Jenkins, Pentrefelin, Nantcwnlle, co. Cardigan]. The essay was awarded the first prize in an unspecified competition.

Cyssegr, Mostyn Baptismal Register,
Baptismal register, 1837-1900 (watermark 1836) of Cyssegr Congregational Church, Rhewl, Mostyn, Flintshire. The volume also contains transcripts of baptismal entries, 1832-1837, taken from an earlier register which was subsequently deposited with the Registrar General, and is now held in The National Archives. Most of the entries in this volume are in the hands of the Reverends Hugh Pugh and E. Pan Jones, successive ministers of Cyssegr Congregational Church.
Also included is a list of marriages solemnised at Cyssegr, 1837-1868 (ff. 73 verso-75 verso); an extract from the chapel deed (f. ii); copies of baptismal entries, 1824-1833, for the children of the Reverend William Rees ('Gwilym Hiraethog'), Hugh Pugh's predecessor as minister of Cyssegr Congregational Church (f. ii verso); and, loose at the beginning of the volume, a newspaper cutting, [1949], relating to the donation of the manuscript to the National Library of Wales.
