David Kinsey: Scrap-album/diary
Scrap-album compiled by David Kinsey (1816-93), Llandinam, co. Montgomery, monumental mason and postmaster, comprising memorial cards of persons deceased in Llandinam and adjoining parishes, 1852-1918; photographs, posters and press cuttings, largely of local interest; examples of late nineteenth-century Christmas and Valentine greeting cards; and a 'memorandum of particular events', 1838-1899 (ff. 101-72v inverted text) mainly in co. Montgomery but including also references to national and international events and affairs. The 'memorandum' was compiled by David Kinsey until 1891 and continued to 1899 by his son John (d. 1905).

Contracts, 1922, relating to the proposed publication of Lloyd George's War Memoirs by Cassell's and purchase by the Sunday Times, including the two principal contracts sealed and signed by the directors of the publishing house and Sir William Berry respectively (but not the author), and ten memoranda for foreign rights, three signed by Lloyd George and one counter-signed by Frances Stevenson.
A small collection of material of Lloyd George interest acquired by Mr William Griffiths, formerly of Foyle's Bookshop in London. It includes a framed photograph of Lloyd George taken in c. 1939-1940, together with a photograph of him as a young politician by John Thomas, c. 1896 (6394992/2), and a family group photograph taken at the same time and including Dame Margaret, three of the Lloyd George children, D. R. Daniel and John Herbert Lewis (6394992/3). There are two letters from Lloyd George to Daniel, dated 1902 and relating to the Penrhyn Quarry dispute and a note from Asquith, dated 1903. A group of letters to William Griffiths, mainly concerning publication matters, include letters from A. J. Sylvester, 1937-1940; Frances Stevenson, later Lady Lloyd-George, 1939 and 1950; Dame Margaret Lloyd George, 1940, and Major Gwilym Lloyd-George, 1945. A notebook, [1910], belonging to David Lloyd George, Chancellor of the Exchequer, containing rough notes in pencil for speeches given by him in late November and early December, on the campaign trail for the December 1910 General Election (ff. 1-41, 94 verso).
The volume contains material which can be found in Lloyd George's speeches in Edinburgh, 26 November (ff. 1 verso, 3-4 verso, 6-7, 8 recto-verso), Cardiff, 29 November (ff. 9 verso, 11 verso-13, 14, 15 verso-16), Ipswich, 2 December (ff. 18, 22, 23 verso), Glasgow, 5 December (f. 31 recto-verso), North Wales, 7-9 December (f. 36 recto-verso), and East Ham, 15 December (f. 39, 40 verso). Lloyd George also critiques at length Lord Rosebery's speeches of 30 November and 3 December 1910 (ff. 16 verso-33 passim). The notes relate mainly to the Parliament Bill to reform the House of Lords (passed as the Parliament Act 1911), the issue on which the election was called, but also tariff reform, Home Rule, land tax, etc. The volume is entirely in English except for two sentences in Welsh (ff. 30 verso, 35 verso).
