Receipts and payments account book, 1946-68, of Cellan Parish Council.

Receipt, 3 May 1830, from Aug[ustus] Brackenbury ['Y Sais Bach'] , Aberystwyth, to Enoch Davies of the hamlet of Trefenter, parish of Llangwyryfon, for £5 10s. being the remainder of the purchase price of one acre of turbary on a bog called Gors-Hebrys in the lordship of Mefenidd in the parish of Llangwryfon.

Receipt for £10-16s-9d, paid by David Griffiths, Rhydycar, to the Cyfarthfa Iron & Steel Works, Merthyr Tudful, for renting fields, houses and grazing land at Rhydycar.

Correspondence relating to, and claims for, rewards offered for information leading to the conviction of Rebecca rioters (see David Williams, The Rebecca Riots (Cardiff, 1955), pp. 285-6). The majority of the letters are from George Rice Trevor, 4th baron Dynevor, to William Chambers, jnr, Llanelli. For other letters from Trevor to Chambers relating to the riots, see Transactions of the Carmarthenshire Antiquarian Society and Field Club, 23 (1932), 60-77. Also included are copies of the calendar of prisoners to be tried at the Carmarthenshire Spring Assizes, 1844, and of proclamations relating to the riots.

A copy of R. B. A. Bennett's dissertation 'Management of Fire Safety and Associated Provisions in a Library or Archive', submitted to the University of Central Lancashire, Preston, in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of BSc with Honours in Fire Engineering and Management, 1998.

The collection comprises: papers relating to Raymond Williams's published works, 1958-1990, including working papers, draft and final typescripts, notebooks and files containing outlines of books, page proofs, and a small quantity of correspondence, some with Mrs Joy Williams; papers relating to Raymond Williams's unpublished works, 1948-1980s, including parts of novels, various notes and jottings.

Papers of Raymond Garlick, 1944-2008, comprising poetry, 1951-1999; correspondence with Jacques Wirz, 1947-2008; letters, 1944-2003, from Elwyn Davies, Jonah Jones, Brenda Chamberlain, Cledwyn Hughes, A. G. Prys-Jones and others; diaries and travel journals, 1950, 1956-1957, 1987-1998, 2000-2001; and papers relating to the Welsh language campaign, 1969-1984.

Papers, 1883-1996, of, or acquired by, the artist Ray Howard-Jones (1903-1996), including correspondence, diaries, notes and draft poems, and papers relating to exhibitions, together with photographs and slides, and printed material.

A further group of papers of, or acquired by Ray Howard-jones was received June 2006. This group remains uncatalogued.

The papers, 1960-2003, reflect Councillor Ray Davies's life and the political campaigns and activities in which he was involved. Many are cuttings from local and national newspapers and other printed items. Some of the material reflects his campaigns in various elections, others the movements which he supported and in which he participated. A large number relate to the campaign against the community charge in the 1980s and 1990s. A few stem from his personal and family life.

Three lots of Councillor Ray Davies'r papers were received, 2006-2008. These remain uncatalogued.

Two incomplete rate books of the parish of Llanwnda, Caernarvonshire, the first for 27 April, 20 July, 12 October, and 21 December, 1844, and the second for 6 October, 1866. Among the properties recorded in both volumes is the Nantlle Railway.
