Between the title-page and 'To the Reder' is written 'Sarah Spruden owe this book.' The name 'Wm Ungless, Kings Arms Inn, Reepham' occurs inside the front cover of the volume.

A composite volume containing (a) a copy of Cotton Mather, Johannes in Eremo. Memoirs, relating to the Lives of ... John Cotton, ... John Norton, ... John Wilson, ... John Davenport, ... and ... Thomas Hooker ([Boston, Mass.]: Michael Perry, 1695); and (b) in manuscript, 'Sarmones preached by Mr Thomas Spurden precer [sic] of the Gospel in the towne of Rushmer in Suffolke ... 1671', written by John Berdwell. The sermons, two in number, were preached in 1670 and 1669 respectively. A 'Thomas Spurdance' is listed in Venn, Alumni Cantabrigienses, where he is described as 'R[ector] of Rushmere, Suffolk, during the troubles'.
