Administrative history
The Loyal St John's Lodge was established in 1842 and registered at the Lodge Room at the Post Office until 1924 and then at the National School, both in Penrhyn-coch, Cardiganshire. Its membership totalled 171 in 1892; 143 in 1918; but only 18 some forty years later. It amalgamated with the Rheidol Lodge in 1962. For the first fifty years of its existence at least many of the lodge's members were employed in the nearby lead mines.
