It includes conversations with Mohl; Remusat; Drouyn de l'Huys; Lavergne; Buffet; Chrzanowski; Mme. Confalonieri; Montalembert; Mme. Cornu; Tourguenief; Guizot; Prince Napoleon; Circourt; Thiers; Broglie; Lafitte; Duc de Gramant (1819-80); Jules Simon; Beaumont; Ampere et al. The discussions relate mainly to the political and diplomatic state of Europe, especially France, Britain, Austria, Italy, Russia, Turkey and Germany. There are also comments on art; Gladstone's budget; Garibaldi's invasion of Sicily; military matters; the Papacy; Tocqueville's letters, etc.
