Deeds and documents, 1728-1988, relating to the Trewern Hall estate, including the Plough and Harrow Inn. They include documents relating to proposed improvements to cottages, 1937-1938, and the restoration of Trewern Hall, 1983-1988; farm and household accounts, with miscellaneous financial papers and vouchers, 1952-1986; correspondence and papers concerning agricultural improvements and grant applications, 1977-1985; correspondence concerning the tenancy of Plas Newydd, Trewern, 1982-1984; personal and family papers, 1949-1984, relating to William Herbert Chapman (1955-1982) and to Murray Lloyd Chapman, including the latter's research notes and papers, on the history of Trewern and Montgomeryshire families and his work in civil engineering, 1973-1986. Plans of the estate and proposed improvements to the farm buildings accompanied some of the papers. Papers relating to Phase 2 Restoration of Trewern Hall, 1990-1993; were received in 2007, including a diary of events in two volumes; papers relating to Ivor William Lloyd Chapman and Margaret Eleanor Chapman; and Gregory-Allen papers. Four further collections were received in August 2014, 2017, September 2018 and September 2019. The 2014 group remains uncatalogued.

Papers, [c.1200]-1937, of the antiquary Egerton Phillimore, including: correspondence; notes and drafts of his contributions to various publications; transcripts of manuscripts; poems written by himself and other members of his family; papers relating to his family and his early life and education; family papers; and manuscripts and other documents of antiquarian interest.
Additional material, donated December 2021, comprises a printed volume: 'Llyvyr Taliessin ... The Text of the Book of Taliesin' (ed. J. Gwenogvryn Evans (1910)) inscribed to and annotated by Egerton Phillimore; a postcard note addressed to Egerton Phillimore from minister, academic and lexicographer Daniel Silvan Evans relating to place-names referenced in the Book of Taliesin; and a newspaper cutting, 17 August 1916, containing a review of Llyvyr Taliessin.

Natural history diaries, 1935-1998, field notes, 1952-1994, typescript and published articles, 1947-1998, notes and correspondence relating to his books, 1933-1998, and to various natural history and historical subjects, card indexes, 1930-1998, and printed pamphlets, papers and books relating to Henry Thoreau, 1943-1999. There are several files of general personal correspondence, 1938-2016, including letters from R.S. Thomas. Inevitably, there are considerable overlaps between the various subsections of the archive, since Condry's interests, professional duties and literary activities were inextricably linked. Additional correspondence and papers, 1948-2020, including the files of letters from R. S. Thomas and his wife Mildred Elsie Eldridge (Elsi), 1968-1998, were transferred to NLW in December 2015, May 2018 and June 2020; a further letter, [c. 1946], by William Condry to Ray Perry, was donated in January 2016; a letter by Condry to his niece, Christine Demmar, enclosing a story about a pet jackdaw, was donated in August 2016; and transcript of a speech given by Chris Fuller at the opening of the William Condry centenary exhibition at MOMA, Machynlleth, in September 2018., donated in October 2018.

The material listed in this series consists mainly of pedigree rolls. It also comprises a number of letters patent, grants of arms, addresses, outsize documents and non-manuscript items.

Papers of Trevor Lovett, 1943-1980, relating mainly to secondary education, including personal papers 1944-1970; papers relating to Holyhead County Secondary School, 1949-1971; papers relating to secondary education in Anglesey, 1959-1980; press cuttings relating mainly to comprehensive education, 1945-1975; together with other papers relating to comprehensive education in England and Wales, 1962-1976, and miscellaneous papers, 1943-1969.

Peter Thomas, Lord Thomas of Gwydir (1920-2008), was the first Conservative Secretary of State for Wales (1970-1974) and the first Welshman to become Chairman of the Conservative Party (1970-1972). Born in Llanrwst, where his father was a solicitor, he read Law at Jesus College, Oxford. After the war, where he served in the RAF and spent four years as a prisoner of war, he continued with his studies and became a barrister, and was called to the Bar at the Middle Temple in 1947; took Silk in 1965. He was elected as the Member of Parliament for Conway between 1951 and 1966 and for Hendon South between 1970 and 1987. After retiring from the House of Commons at the 1987 General Election, The Right Honourable Peter John Mitchell Thomas, QC, was created Baron Thomas of Gwydir, of Llanrwst in the County of Gwynedd.

Papers of Maurice Johnson, [20 cent.], comprising typescript research notes on and pedigree rolls of the Alexander family, formerly of Wiveton, Norfolk, and of Caister near Great Yarmouth; the Atkinson family, formerly of St George's Hanover Square, and Hillingdon Heath, Middlesex; the Johnson family, formerly of St Botolph's Aldgate, London, and of Little Gearies, Barkingside, Essex; the Jones family of Rhydyfen, Merionethshire; the Kerrison family, formerly of Kirstead, Norfolk, and Norwich; and the Lloyd family of Rhiwaedog and Plas-yn-Dre, Merionethshire. Typescript drafts and proofs of Augustus John's first volume of memoirs, Chiaroscuro: Fragments of Autobiography (London: Jonathan Cape, 1952), [1950]-1951; working manuscripts, typescripts and editorial correspondence relating to the follow-up volume, published posthumously under the title Finishing Touches (London: Jonathan Cape, 1964), [1950x1952]-[early 1960s]; and other miscellaneous autobiographical fragments, [c. 1950], [?1959].

The fonds comprises a substantial group of letters and papers, 1911-1972, acquired by Frances as private secretary to Lloyd George, including some business papers, notebooks of reminiscences and printed items. There are letters from a number of prominent politicians and public figures. There is also a small group of letters and papers, 1912-1965, concerning Lloyd George himself, papers, 1933-1946, relating to Jennifer Longford's schooldays, and a few papers relating to other members of the Stevenson family, notably Frances's sister Muriel and brother Paul. The material in sub-fonds G was loaned by Mrs Ruth Nixon of Camberwell to the National Library of Wales to be digitised in March 2013 and subsequently returned to her a few months later. Some of this material was subsequently purchased by NLW in 2017 and catalogued as sub-fonds H. The 2017 purchase includes various articles about Lloyd George, a draft memorandum partly in the hand of Lloyd George and partly in the hand of Frances Stevenson regarding the early part of the First World War, letters from Frances Stevenson to her family, including some from the Versailles Peace Conference, notes following Lloyd George's speeches and papers relating to Jennifer Longford including letters between her and Lloyd George.

The music manuscripts, 1927-1986, of Mansel Thomas, comprising music for male voice choirs, mixed choirs, youth and female voices, solo songs, and instrumental compositions. They consist mainly of Christmas music, hymn-tunes, liturgical music, arrangements of Welsh traditional melodies, secular music and solo songs, the majority of which have been published by the Mansel Thomas Trust and the Cwmni Cyhoeddi Gwynn Publishing Company. Some manuscripts are in the hand of copyists and may contain later notes and additions.
