Papers of David Davies, the first Baron Davies of Llandinam (1880-1944), along with papers of other members of the family, David Davies (1818-1890), Edward Davies (1852–1898), Revd. Gwilym Davies (1879-1955), Gwendoline Elizabeth Davies (1882-1951) and Mary Sidney Davies (1884-1963). They reflect Lord Davies varied business and political interests and include the records of the New Commonwealth Society, papers related to the League of Nations Union Welsh National Council, the first and second world wars, the Temple of Peace, the King Edward VII Welsh National Memorial Institute, the National Library of Wales, the Royal Welsh Agricultural Show, University of Wales Aberystwyth, Davies’s coal and railway interests, international affairs, drafts and copies of Davies’s publications mainly on international relations, papers of the David Davies Memorial Institute and papers related to Gregynog Press.

Papers, 1966-1967, relating to the public inquiry into the Aberfan tip disaster of 21 October 1966, together with some additional material relating to the Aberfan Parents' and Residents' Association, 1966-1973, including copies of the Proceedings of the Public Inquiry in the form of typescript notes taken by Treasury Reporters, 1966-1967, other notes and speeches relating to the Tribunal by Cyril Moseley, Aubrey Myerson, and Desmond Ackner, QC, 1966-1967, various Tribunal documents with an index, 1947-[1967], correspondence, 1966-1973, and original statements and copies taken on behalf of Aberfan Parents' and Residents' Association [1966]-[1967]. It should be noted that these are not the official records of the Tribunal, although a largely complete set of documents, plans and photographs submitted to the Tribunal is included.

Estate and family records of Mansel, later Talbot, of Penrice, and its estates in Gower, Glamorgan, from the 16th cent.; including records of Margam Abbey, 12-19th cent., including charters from its foundation in c. 1147, together with royal charters, charter rolls and papal bulls, which form one of the most complete series of archives of any medieval abbey in Great Britain; substantial early archives for Penrice, and other estates, mostly in Glamorgan; manorial records for the manor of Margam Abbey and others; early records of the coal industry in Glamorgan; a large group of Mansel correspondence, 1568-1848, along with some papers relating to Williams of Plas Dyffryn Clydach, largely literary, 17th cent.-18 cent.

The catalogued portion of the archive contains records of the family of Owen, later Humphreys-Owen, of Glansevern, and Johnes of Garthmyl, mainly comprising title deeds and documents, [late 12 cent.]-1929, mainly relating to property in Montgomeryshire; estate papers, 1767-1924, including rentals, accounts and surveys; records relating to Campobello island, New Brunswick, Canada, 1767-1902; substantial family correspondence, 1633-1926, political correspondence of Arthur Charles Humphreys-Owen, 1856-1905, including letters from Lord Rendel; naval papers of Captain William Owen, 1746-1778, [c. 1797]. The uncatalogued part of the archive includes correspondence of the Owen and Humphreys-Owen families, 1754-1905; pedigree of the Owen family, 1839; and material relating to S. P. F. Humphreys Owen, [c. mid 20 cent].

Estate records, mainly title deeds, of the Carreg-lwyd and Berw estates, Anglesey, and family papers, mainly correspondence, of the Griffith family of Carreg-lwyd and the Holland family of Berw, 1329-1864, including valuable early 17th century papers relating to affairs of state, accumulated by John Griffith, secretary to Henry Howard (1540-1614), 1st earl of Northampton, Keeper of the Privy Seal, 1608-1614, and First Commissioner of the Treasury, 1612-1614; accounts and papers relating to the administration of the county of Anglesey, including muster rolls, 1602-1656, mainly for the hundreds of Tindaethwy, Menai and Talybolion; mise, window, house and land tax assessments, 1653-1764, mainly for the hundreds of Tindaethwy, Menai and Talybolion; rentals of Crown lands in the same hundreds; 1503-1737; papers of Dr William Griffith (1597-1648), successively chancellor of the dioceses ofSt Asaph and Bangor, and Commissioner of North Wales from 1633; account of the funerals of Elizabeth I and James I, [1625], and a census of the inhabitants of the parish of Llanfaethlu, Anglesey, August 1690.

Deeds and documents 1404-1979, relating to the Penllergaer estate in Breconshire and Glamorgan, including deeds and papers relating to coal mining in Glamorgan and Carmarthenshire, mainly nineteenth century; and letters and papers of the following: John Llewelyn of Penllergaer, 1790-1816, John Dillwyn Llewelyn, 1824-1840, William Dillwyn and Lewis Weston Dillwyn.

The greater part of the archive consists of letters to or from Richard Venables, 1810-1858, archdeacon of Carmarthen, mainly from solicitors and members of his family and dealing largely with personal, legal, and business matters, and of letters to or from his two sons Richard Lister Venables, vicar of Clyro, 1835-1893, (mainly letters from his brother George) and George Stovin Venables, Q.C. [?1831]-1888, (mainly social, personal and legal). Other personal papers include the diaries of Richard Lister Venables, 1828-1893, diaries and journals of George Stovin Venables, and diaries of Mary Hannah Venables, 1809-1834. -- The remainder of the archive comprises mainly title deeds, 1665-1863, relating to properties in Breconshire, Denbighshire, Merioneth, Radnorshire, Montgomeryshire, and in the USA, personal, housekeeping and bank accounts, 1806-1893, and material relating to establishing All Saints church, Newbridge-on-Wye, 1883.
