The archive comprises entirely of deeds and documents, 1446-1934, relating to the Caerhun estate in Anglesey, Caernarfonshire, Denbighshire, and associated estates of Downing, Flintshire, and Llechwedd Garth in Montgomeryshire.

Papers of the Waddington, Bunsen and Chisholm families, consisting mainly of letters to Mrs Georgina Waddington of Llanover from her eldest surviving daughter, Frances, and her husband Christopher Charles Bunsen, 1817-1825, mainly written from Rome where Bunsen was Charge d'Affairs; letters to Thomas Waddington mainly from his his wife Janet Waddington (nee Chisholm), 1825-1866; letters to Janet Waddington, [c.1825]-1845, from members of the family; letters to Catherine Chisholm, 1826-1843, mainly from Janette Waddington; letters to Mrs Eliza Chisholm, 1825-1845; and letters to Frances Chisholm, 1822-1841.

Deeds and documents, 1686-1911, accumulated by R. H. Evans, relating to properties in parishes in south and west Caernarvonshire, Denbighshire, Cheshire and Lancashire, including miscellaneous correspondence and papers and particulars of mines in Llanengan, co. A collection of four hundred and ninety-one manuscripts from the library of Sir John Williams, Plas Llanstephan, Carmarthenshire.

This is a numbered series currently (August 2006) reaching 1615. The deposits included in it are minor in the sense that they consist of single items, or small groups of documents or papers where the group has been treated as a single item. There is one medieval missal, a few literary manuscripts, a large number of registers and other records from chapels, and much else.

Papers and art work of Clifford McLucas, including correspondence and papers relating to performance work created by him; his installation work and projects; proposals, reports and articles prepared by him for a number of bodies and organisations; his graphic design and art work, including examples of art work; papers relating to the architectural aspects of his work; and papers relating to the deep mapping work and projects carried out by him; together with papers relating to his general research interests, and to his professional and personal life in general.

The 1933-1934, 1964-1965 and 1985-1986 deposits, listed as Cilgwyn Estate Records Groups I, II and III respectively, comprise estate records and family papers including title deeds, 1509-1949; rentals of the Cilgwyn estate, 1791-1931, and the Paddington estate, 1792-1921; ledgers, 1882-1936; letter books and estate correspondence, 1825-1935; personal correspondence and papers, including papers relating to the military career of Edward Crawford Lloyd Fitzwilliams, 1890-1934, during the Boer War, including diaries, 1899-1901, and the First World War (British Adriatic Mission, Northern Command, Mesopotamia Expeditionary Force), and to the medical career of Gerard Lloyd Hall Fitzwilliams in the Far East, Africa, United States and Europe, 1902-1932, and including Russia, 1917-1918, and a letter book of Edward Hall (first secretary of the Whig Club) containing copies of letters written to his brother and uncle in Kingston, Jamaica, 1783-1795; records of the borough of Adpar, Cardiganshire, including rentals, [1670]-[1696], and court leet books, 1709-1741; records of the New Quay Harbour Company, 1834-1900 and the Llandysul Market Company, 1837-1858; ships' log books, 1893-1897; and parochial papers of the parish of Paddington, 1730-1803, acquired and inherited by Benjamin Crompton as churchwarden and overseer of the poor, including land tax assessments, 1758-1791, account book, 1774-1777, of fees paid for burials in the new church, and apprenticeship indentures of pauper children, 1762-1776. -- The 2002 deposit includes family and personal papers, 1790-1960, correspondence, 1873-1939, rentals, 1850-1941, and other estate papers, 1865-[c.1953]. The 2006 deposit comprises a bundle of deeds and related papers relating to the Gelligadrog estate, 1866-1954.

Papers of A. J. Sylvester, 1909-1986, including shorthand diaries and notebooks, 1912-1953; subject files, 1914-1948, including files relating to the First World War, 1914-1920, the Paris Peace Conference, 1918-1920, Germany and the Second World War, 1936-1944; material relating to the Liberal Party, politics and elections, 1918-1945; Lloyd George family letters and papers, 1912-1985; general correspondence, 1912-1983; and papers relating to A. J. Sylvester's publications, 1945-1986.

Comprises letters, 1957-1997, to John Morris, mainly of political interest. Many of the letters are from John Morris's Aberavon constituents. In some cases there are copies of his replies and/or drafts of his replies, prepared to be typed up by a secretary. The letters cover a wide range of subjects, mainly governmental affairs and the work of various governmental ministries and departments, above all the Welsh Office. Many letters concern the Labour Party, its various committees and its internal affairs. Many of the letters are from constituents who make enquiries and refer problems and difficulties to their Member of Parliament. Some also concern the framing and implementation of various pieces of legislation. There are also many subject files, 1951-1995, divided into British subjects, Welsh affairs, many of these concerning devolution, and constituency matters. The subject files relating to British politics nationally include material on a wide range of subjects including defence, disarmament, education, the EEC, parliamentary elections, the environment, foreign affairs, housing, the Labour Party, leasehold reform, local government, pensions, the steel industry, transport, and specific pieces of parliamentary legislation. The files on Welsh affairs include material on the Welsh Office, the Labour Party Wales, the Crowther/Kilbrandon Commission and devolution, the Development Corporation for Wales, and the Welsh language. Thirdly, there is a group of printed, typescript and manuscript materials and diaries, 1943-1991. A further file, being Lord Morris's earliest drafts of the chapter on Kosovo (chapter 21), for inclusion in his book 'Fifty Years in Politics and the Law', published in 2011, was received in Februay 2013. This file is under Embargo during the lifetime of the donor. Further donations of material were made in Augist 2015 and August 2015. These remain uncatalogued although photographs have been transferred to photo albums and videocasettes, sound cassettes and DVDs have been transferred to the National Screen and Sound Archive of Wales.

Deeds and documents,1600-1919, relating to the Trewern estate, mainly in Cardiganshire, Carmarthenshire, and Pembrokeshire, routine estate and financial correspondence, mainly 19th century, sale catalogues, valuations, etc., 1859-1919, rentals of the Trewern estate, 1860-1896, the Manoravon estate, 1875-1896, and the Clynmarch and Coedmor estates, 1875; and deeds and documents, 1892-1908, relating to the Dolwilym and Glyn-taf estates in Carmarthenshire, and Pembrokeshire.

Estate records, 1429-1834, and legal papers,1733-1779, of the Eriviat estate in the parishes of Henllan, Denbigh, St. Asaph, etc., and the Rhydonen estate in Llantysilio, Denbighshire, together with some deeds and legal papers of the Clough family of Plas Clough and the Salesbury family of Bryn y Barcut, both Denbighshire.

Manuscripts and papers, [1601x1937], of or in the possession of the Reverend David Erwyd Jenkins. They largely comprise material of Welsh historical, literary and religious interest, much of which relates to the Calvinistic Methodist movement in Wales during the early nineteenth century and includes transcripts of the letters of the Reverend Thomas Charles and John Jones, Tal-y-sarn. The collection also includes a substantial amount of correspondence addressed to David Erwyd Jenkins.

Records of the Gogerddan estate, Cardiganshire, and the Pryse family, including branches of the family at Glanfred, Ynysgreigiog and Glanmerin,1238-1987. There are also records of various other families linked to Gogerddan by marriage: Loveden of Buscot Park, Berkshire, Lewes (or Lewis) of Llan-gors, Breconshire, and of Abernantbychan and Coedmor in Cardiganshire, Hean Castle in Pembrokeshire and Hurst in Berkshire and Wiltshire, Pughe of Mathafarn, Montgomeryshire, and via the Pughe family, Salesbury of Rug. Merionethshire. The main group of Gogerddan estate papers comprises rentals, 1719-1931; valuations, 1805-[early 20th cent.]; title deeds, 1332-1930; estate administration records which include agency and tenancy papers, 1810-1925, estate accounts, 1474-1926 (mainly 1850s-1926), building records, 1766-1921, agricultural records, 1796-1922, forestry and timber records, 1816-1923, papers relating to enclosures on Cors Fochno and elsewhere, 1743-1899, hunting, shooting and fishing records, 1804-1943, and household administration records, 1668-1928; estate and general correspondencec, 1586-1924; papers of various agricultural societies, 1815-1924; Cardiganshire lead mining records, 1656-1924; manorial records mainly from Genau’r-glyn, Cardiganshire, and Emlyn Iscych, Pembrokeshire, and a few from Lampeter, 1610-1919; legal papers, 1441-[post-1908]; mortgages and other financial papers, 1577-1926; papers relating to the Cardigan Borough elections and other political papers, [1690]-1880[; county administration papers from Cardiganshire and other counties, 1523-1929; records of institutions such as churches and chapels, schools and charities, 1620-1945; papers relating to roads and railways, 1776-1900; the Pryse family probate records and family settlements, 1549-1950; and personal papers of the family, including Lady Marjorie Pryse, 1641-1987. There are several sub-groups of records from the other estates. The first of these is Abernantbychan, 1416-1918, which includes rentals, 1722-1887and valuations, 1790-[c. 1881]. The other estates comprise Mathafarn, 1403-1754, Aberbechan and Main, 1238-1684, Rug, 1529-1744, and miscellaneous estates which include Peterwell and Nanteos, Cardiganshire, Llanboidy in Carmarthenshire and Montserrat, West Indies, 1562-[c.1887],The BRA deposit consisted of papers mainly from the offices of solicitors, Atwood and Hughes of Aberystwyth, and Boys and Tweedie of London. It included original Gogerddan deeds, together with maps, correspondence, papers relating to enclosures in the manor of Genau’r-glyn, sales and purchases of land, mining and court cases, and papers amassed during administration of the estate after the death of Pryse Loveden in 1855. The material in the BRA Deposit has been amalgamated with the main Gogerddan catalogue, albeit as discrete files for retrieval purposes.Overall, the collection reflects the historical importance of Gogerddan and the Pryse family within Cardiganshire. Several major themes emerge from the estate records: the history of property ownership and building development in the Aberystwyth area, estate work such as land drainage, building improvements, agriculture, forestry, mining, gamekeeping and foxhunting, county politics, and participation in large-scale commercial enterprises such as the railways. The personal papers illustrate the family’s interests and their deep concern over financial issues during the final decline of the Gogerddan estate.
