A photostat facsimile of MS 183 in the library of Christ Church, Oxford. The original manuscript is a volume written, for the most part, at Lleweni, Denbighshire, in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries and containing, among other things, autograph poems by a number of bards to members of the Salusbury family of Lleweni, these poems having been entered in the volume by the bards themselves on their periodical 'clera' visits.
Among the poems are 'cywyddau' and 'awdlau', some of them written to 'Sion Salusburi Escwiair wŷr ac aer Sr. Shion Salusburi Marchog vrddol o Leweni a Siamberlen Gwynedd' and dated 1593, 1607, and 1608, by Simwnt Fychan, Sion Mawddwy, Sion Tudur, Huw Machno, Wiliam Cynwal, Sion Phylip, Robert Ifan, Gruffudd Hafren, Edward Urien, Gruffudd Phylip, Sion Cain, Sion Evans, R[oger] Kyffin, Tomos Penllyn, Robert Llyn, Rhisiart Phylip, Huw Pennant, Rhys Cain, Rees ap John, and William Mathe. Among the prose contents are the following: '... note of weights taken out of the Method of Phisicke'; 'Certaine [medicinal] receites for my Honorable good friende Sr John Salusbury Knight', followed by miscellaneous culinary, household, and medicinal recipes; copies of letters from Sir Henry Sidney, Lord President of Wales, and his wife to their son, (Sir) Philip Sidney, of 'A Letter of the Lord Keapers to the Earle of Essex, Earle Marshall of Englande', of 'The Earle Marshall his answere to the Lorde Keaper', of a letter of Sir Walter Raleigh, and of a letter of King Charles I (from Ludlow Castle, September 4, 1625); and a copy of the general pardon granted by James I, July 24, 1603.

A manuscript of John Roberts ('Ieuan Gwyllt') used originally as a register of the pupils who enrolled in his school at Nanteos Arms [Capel Seion, near Aberystwyth] from its foundation on 12 June to 1 July 1839. The volume was subsequently used, [c. 1839-1840], to record hymn-tunes, hymns, metrical psalms, etc., by 'Ieuan Gwyllt', and notes of sermons by John Hughes, Pontrobert, [Thomas] Richards, Fishguard, David Howels, Thos. Evans, O. Williams, and H. Hughes, Llanrwst.

Part of a manuscript in the hand of, and including poetry by, Dafydd Jones (1743-1831), Penrhyndeudraeth, 'Dafydd Siôn Siâms' or 'Dafydd ab Ioan ab Iago' (see. DWB, p. 448). It appears that this manuscript, together with NLW MSS 5553B and 10898B, once formed a complete manuscript volume. Examples of the poetical items contained in this manuscript have never been recorded before. The cywyddau and carolau belong to the period 1802-21. Fourteen items are to be found in this manuscript portion, including poems requesting various items, elegies, warnings against the threat of invasion by Napoleon Bonaparte, 1803, and against the unfaithfulness of Anglican clergy, as well as carolau plygain.

The second part of a photostat facsimile, bound for convenience in two volumes (see also NLW MS 6495C), of Christ Church (Oxford) MS 184, a manuscript written in various hands of the 16th and 17th centuries. The original portion was written by Wiliam Cynwal (d. 1587/8), herald bard, who also inserted a note explaining how the manuscript came to be written. The major part of the volumes, written in Welsh, consist of cywyddau, awdlau and englynion, many of them in the autograph of the authors, and most of them written to various members of the Salusbury family of Lleweni and to Katherine of Berain (1534/5-1591). The English portion of the manuscripts includes autograph poems by Sir John Salusbury (1567-1612) and Robert Chester (fl. c. 1586-1604), and others. Also included in the manuscripts are the coats of arms of Katherine of Berain, resulting from her four marriages; a few Latin items, including elegies and epitaphs to Katherine of Berain; a rough index to the contents of the volumes compiled by John Jones (Tegid) (1792-1852), Christ Church (Oxford), in the 19th century.
