Original envelope containing letters to Pryse Pryse Pryse of Lodge Park, George Griffiths Williams and David Philip, from John E. James of Aberystwyth, auctioneer, surveyor and valuer, and relevant third party letters, 1894-1896. The letters mainly concern the sale of houses and land on the Gogerddan estate at Penbontrhydybeddau, Tal-y-bont, Glasbwll, Aberystwyth and Llanbadarn Fawr, including Penygraig, Penyfron, Cwmcynfelyn, Cwmere, the Gogerddan Arms at Ynyslas, and Rhydtir Issaf, tenanted by John Humphreys. There is also a copy of a contract for the sale of gardens and fields at Tal-y-bont, with plan, 1895. Two letters discuss the proposal for Tal-y-bont agricultural show, 1896.

Original bundle of letters and papers concerning the dispute with Lord Milford over Moreton Colliery, 1773-1779. Correspondents and recipients include Lewis Pryse, B. Allen of Cresselly, Lord Milford, Edward Loveden Loveden, Joseph Woolstenhulme and James Child of Begeli. The file also contains a report on the state of the colliery at Moreton by Jospeh Woolstenhulme, 1779; a case and opinion, reciting the original agreement between Lewis Pryse and Sir John Philipps in 1757; and accounts, 1778-1779.

Original envelope containing letters to George Griffiths Williams about the lease of Rhydypennau farm, from the lessee John Baker, auctioneer, and Arthur Johnson Hughes, solicitor of the Town Clerk’s Office, Aberystwyth, about the terms of the lease and the financial expenses incurred by Mr Baker, 1880-1889.

Two complete sets of typescript manuscripts of children’s stories; one original and one proof copy. Also included are the proof cover and inside illustrations for ‘Lizzie the lifeboat’, and correspondence with the publishers and the Royal National Lifeboat Institution, July 1984-February 1985. This was the last book by Dora Thatcher as she died in July 1985. All the royalties for the book along with the copyright were donated to the R.N.L.I.

Includes bills for the attendance of the Fire Brigade at Brogyntyn, 1874; repairs to Laganomer Barracks and expenses for the Dromod estate (in vouchers for Mr Percy Jones’ account, November 1881); and a letter to William Percy Jones from John Smith, chairman of the Balinaglera Relief Committee about the potato famine, 1880 (in vouchers year ending December 1880)

Includes accounts of repairs to the Dromod estate and barracks, 1878-1879, general estate expenditure and temporary abatements to tenants, 1879-1881; vouchers for William Percy Jones’ account and for William Evans’ account, 1881-1882

Original bundle of vouchers from the Irish estates of William Richard Ormsby Gore, second Baron Harlech, labelled ‘Mr Vernon’s vouchers’ and part of the wrapper, giving the date ‘1st May 1884’ but Mr Vernon’s vouchers are actually dated 1880-1885. The bundle has several packets inside, including Mr Walker’s receipts, 1876-1877; and William Percy Jones’ vouchers, 1883-1885

Title deeds relating to the Parry family of Main and Penyvoile, Montgomeryshire, 1697-1753. The deeds concern mainly messuages and lands situated in the township of Peniarth in the parish of Meifod, namely Tyddyn Pen y Voel, Tyddyn y Goetre-las, Maes y Kestill, Tire Nonio, Erw Forchog, Gweirglodd Dduddge and Gwerglodd Tir Nonio, and part of Cae tan y Lloyne (detailed boundary clauses) near Pentrego, also in the parish of Meifod. They include include a deed of partition between Alice Parry of Main, Mary Ellis of Garneddwen, Llanwddyn, and Margaret, wife of Methusalem Jones of Pant, all daughters and co-heiresses of William Lloyd of Pen y Voile, 1696/7; deeds of exchange between Methusalem Jones of Hunderdell (Underdale), Salop, and Robert Parry of Penyvoile, 1698, and between Alice Parry and her son Robert Parry, and Margaret Phillips of Shrewsbury and her son Robert Phillips, 1706/7; a settlement between Alice Parry and her son Robert, 1717; an appointment by Alice Parry to her grandson John Williams of £40, 1721; and a conveyance by Methusalem Jones to Robert Parry and his son Andrew Parry, to uses specified, 1723. The file also contains deeds of sale by John Bishop of Newtown to Robert Parry, of a messuage and a bakehouse converted into a dwelling in the township of Peniarth, 1741; a mortgage of the same to Elizabeth Thomas of Llannerchrochwel1, Guilsfield, 1741; and the copy probate of the will of Elizabeth Thomas, made 1743, proved 1750.

Court leet presentments of the manor of Genau’r-glyn, dated 1825-1851, with enclosures, 1852. As well as the presentments the volume includes petty constables’ and tithing men’s returns, and lists of residents to 1830.

The file includes an agreement between William Mostyn Owen of Woodhouse, Salop, and Thomas Owen[s] of Gaer, Meifod, for the sale of Mathrafal, 1785; a copy release by William Mostyn Owen to John Humffreys Jones of Mathrafal and several other mortgaged premises mainly in the parish of Llanfechain, 1787; deeds for two purchases by Elizabeth Owens of Gaer, firstly from George Edward Henry Arthur Earl of Powis, of pieces of land in the tenancy of William Owen, 1786, and secondly from William Mostyn Owen, with the agreement and at the request of Thomas Owens, with John Humffreys Jones of Llanfyllin acting as trustee for the purchase, 1787; attested copy of the will of Elizabeth Owen, then of Meifod, devising Mathrafal to her grandson Thomas Owen Jones 1806; a printed ‘Act for inclosing lands in the manor of Caereinion Iscoed in the county of Montgomery’ [1810]; a release by John Whitticase of Guilsfield to Thomas Owen Jones of an annuity charged on Mathrafal, 1813; and a mortgage and bond by Thomas Owen Jones to Bruce, Simpson and Mackenzie, bankers of London, 1813, endorsed with an undertaking by the bankers to execute a reconveyance of the premises to Charles Watkin Williams Wynn, the purchaser, upon repayment of the mortgage, 1814.

Wynn’ containing a conveyance by the trustees of the late Evan Ellis of Meifod to Thomas Owens of Frondeg of the Triangle Field near Meifod for the residue of a term of years created by the will of John Humphreys, 1836; successive assignments of the leasehold by Thomas Jones and David Davies to Rev. Levi Rees Jacob, vicar of Llanllugan, 1869, to William Evans, 1869, and to Charles Watkin Williams Wynn of Coedymaen, 1871, with a schedule of deeds, 1881; and a conveyance by Charles Watkin Williams Wynn of his estate for life to his son Arthur Watkin Williams Wynn in a messuage and lands called Penygraig or Tynygraig in the township of Peniarth and parish of Meifod, 1891.
