Deeds and documents relating to the estates of the Jones family of Pen y Bryn, Ruabon, Denbighshire,1534-1808, and of the Maddocks family of Prees Henlle, Whittington, Shropshire, 1441-1786.

Documents collected by Col. Sir John Conway Lloyd, including over a thousand deeds, 1323-1870, relating to properties in the counties of Brecon, Glamorgan, Hereford, Monmouth, Radnor, Cardigan, Carmarthen, Gloucester, and London; together with various documents, including letters and papers relating to the Lloyd family and other estates. In addition, the archive consists of deeds and documents, 1588-1864, mainly of industrial interest accumulated by John Lloyd (1833-1915), pertaining to the New Weare ironworks, Goodrich, Hereford; the Hirwaun ironworks; the Beaufort Iron Company, the Clydach ironworks; the Dowlais Iron Company; and the Bute Works. A substantial group of Dinas Estate records has been transferred to the Maybery Collection.

The records deposited in 1934 included two major groups, the 'Trevecka Group' and the 'Bala College Group'. The former, which represents the largely autonomous 18th-century development of Methodism in Wales, beginning in the 1730s, is centred on the archives of the founding father of Welsh Methodism, Howell Harris, and of the religious community which he established, the 'Trevecka Family'. Besides the 290 volumes of Howell Harris's diaries (for 1735-73), it comprises some 3000 letters, accounts of Societies (individual groups of adherents) and records of Associations. The 'Bala College Group' represents the development of Methodism during the 19th century, its spread in North Wales, the separation from the Established Church in 1811 and the formation of the Confession of Faith in 1823. The accessions of the years 1934 to 1974 include the records of the Sasiwn [the Association], district meetings, colleges, some individual chapels and churches, personal archives (both those of ministers and laymen), and those of the Foreign Mission. In content, the accessions of the years 1974-83 are distinguished from those of the earlier period by the high proportion of records of individual churches, many of them deposited because of the closure of the church. A third series, following a classification similar to that of the second, lists accessions from July 1983 onwards. The records of the North Cardiganshire Presbytery, detailed in a schedule [c.1940], have been withdrawn. Particular mention should be made of the archives of the Foreign Mission, which cover the missionary work of the Church in North East India from its beginning in the 1840s.

The volume is probably incomplete, consisting of three loose gatherings only. A receipt, dated 5 July 1825 is tipped in on f. 14.

A volume containing nine autograph sermons by the Reverend Hugh Davies ('Hywel Ddu o Arfon', d. 1909), curate of Glasinfryn, co. Caernarfon, 1876-83, afterwards serving with the South American Missionary Society at Chubut, Patagonia, with details of the date and place of delivery, 1871-9 and 1906-8, together with an index of texts (f. i verso).

Williams of Hove, relating to premises in Brecknockshire, 1564-1823; Cardiganshire, 1663-1778; Carmarthenshire, 1437-1790; Caernarfonshire, 1437-1822; Denbighshire, 1507-1743; Flintshire, 1469-1761; Glamorgan, 1612-1775; Merionethshire, 1616-1762; Monmouthshire, 1491-1795; Montgomeryshire, 1636-1773; Pembrokeshire, 1645-1797; and Radnorshire and Herefordshire, 1543-1786.

A copy of the publication given to James Ifano Jones by its author William Williams, Keeper of Printed Books at the National Library of Wales, and annotated by the recipient who was a Welsh Librarian at Cardiff City Library.

Records of rent tribunals in Wales: North Wales Tribunal, North East Wales Tribunal, North West Wales Tribunal, Monmouthshire, Breconshire and Radnorshire Tribunal, and Swansea and West Wales Tribunal, including cases arising from the 1946 and 1949 Rent Control Acts, 1946-1960; and papers relating to the Housing and Rent Acts, 1946-1954. They comprise mainly case papers under the 1946 act.

The volume includes the title page, dedication and preface (ff. i-v), contents (f. vi), a list of illustrations (ff. vii-xxi; the illustrations are not included), the main text (ff. 1-254) and bibliography (ff. 255-275). There are some manuscript annotations and corrections, with a number of significant additions (ff. 11, 67, 154 verso, 163 verso, 179 and 249 verso). The printed version includes a few additional changes and an index. A revised edition was published in 1944.

A journal, 1818-1836, with full details relating to his work and activities, receipts and payments, etc. kept by a Carmarthenshire farmer, possibly David Thomas (1756-1840), Llwynywermwd, Llanycrwys, son of Zechariah Thomas (1727-1816), Baptist minister.

The archive comprises almost entirely of deeds, 1559-1927, relating mainly to the Glanyrafon and Bronheulog estates in the parishes of Llansilin and Llangedwyn, Denbighshire, and to properties in Montgomeryshire and Shropshire.
