A file containing twenty-three signed and witnessed surrenders, etc. on which the enrolments in No. 1,691 were made, of which nineteen are written on paper and one on parchment. There is also a power of attorney on parchment, 17 Aug. 1675. A file of 24 items, of which 19 are paper, some of 2 leaves, and 5 are parchment. All the items, especially the paper ones, are badly damaged by damp.

A file marked 'Cynddelw', containing sermons and drafts of sermons (in Welsh) and a letter, July 11 1873, from John Roberts, Gongolgam, Brundu [sic], Holyhead, co. Ang., on behalf of the church at Capelgwun [sic] to Mr R. Ellis, 'Cunddelw', inviting him to preach at their annual (preaching) meeting in Aug. The notes on the back of the letter are in the autograph of Robert Ellis, 'Cynddelw', and the (page) references are to Barddoniaeth Dafydd ab Gwilym, O grynhoad Owen Jones, a William Owen (Llundain, 1789). It is unlikely, however, that the sermons are in any way connected with him: the first is dated 'Henllan March 14th., 1830', with 'Ruabon April 2, 1848' in pencil on the back.

A file marked 'Holt Academy', containing printed prospectuses of Holt Academy near Wrexham (Principal: J. Oliver Jones) and The Ladies College, Holt, near Wrexham (conducted by Mrs Oliver Jones), with a note on the history of Holt Academy, a printed Sale Catalogue, 1925, and two letters, 1925-6, from A. V. Jones, Holt Academy, to J. R. Hughes.

A file marked 'Ieuan Glan Geirionydd. Llythyr o gasgliad Gwilym Cowlyd ....', containing a number of miscellaneous items, including letters to J. R. Hughes. The only item which corresponds vaguely to the heading given above is a piece of paper originally addressed to the 'Rev. E. Evans, Ince, Cheshire' (crossed out), subsequently used for writing a draft of verses entitled 'Durandarte & Belerma'. The other items including mourning cards for the Rev. Evan Evans (dec. 21 Jan. 1855, aged 59), i.e. 'Ieuan Glan Geirionydd', Catherine Roberts, Tyddyn Gwilym, Trefriw, eldest sister of 'Ieuan Glan Geirionydd', dec. 24 April 1864, aged 75, and Charles Jones, also of Tyddyn Gwilym, Trefriw (dec. 2 Jan. 1891, aged 74), and a photograph of W. J. Roberts, 'Gwilym Cowlyd'; and a lithograph print of the Rev. John Elias ('Drawn on Stone by W. Roos from a Painting by H. Jones Pritchard by W. Doyle Liverpool').

A file marked 'Mrs F. Hemans & Family' and 'Felicia Hemans very early poems & letters &c. J. R. Hughes Wrexham (?) 1925'. Some of the papers are dated 1838, whereas Felicia Hemans dec. 1835, but there are one or two poems (? copies) by Felicia Hemans, and there is also a letter written from Bronwhilfa, May 7 1816, to Miss [Harriett] Browne at Bodlon[deb], Conway, containing first some light verse probably by [Felicia Hemans] - the signature has been cut away - then a letter from F. D. Browne to her daughter, and lastly a note from 'Goody' to Harriett.

A file marked 'Rev. W. H. Owen St Asaph. Letters found in Album with Felicia Hemans and family's letters', with a note in pencil by J. R. Hughes, 1925, stating that Mrs W. H. Owen, Rhyllon, Kinmel, St Asaph, was a sister to Felicia Hemans. [Harriett Mary Browne (b. 1798) married (1) Thomas Lewis Hughes of St Asaph, and (2) the Rev. W. H[icks] Owen, Rhyllon. She dec. 1858 and was buried at Tremeirchion. See Yr Haul, 1858, p. 381.]. There are seven letters addressed to the Rev. W. H. Owen (together with the words of a comic song, 'The Jolly Cats') and one to Mrs W. H. Owen. The correspondents are W. Cleaver, John Jones, St Asaph Savings Bank, 1833, John Jones, Hope Foundry, Liverpool, 1837, R. Waldo Sibthorp, Ryde, 1841, and Jane M. Lloyd, Rhagatt [? 1858]. The letters from R. Waldo Sibthorp, four in number, are concerning a commission for labels (arch.) with texts on them.

A File of 23 letters concerning the purchase by Mrs R. J. Sisson of a small parcel of land adjoining Talardy [co. Flint], part of the estate of Sir W. G. Williams.

They include a copy of 'Atgofion am Gyfnod Dirwasgiad mewn Unrhyw Ardal', entered for competition at Swansea National Eisteddfod, 1982, with an English translation 'Recollections of any industrial depression', in which Lh recollects his work in the 1930s, as secretary to Sir Percy Watkins, in connection with the Council of Social Service for Wales and Monmouthshire (1/2); an address delivered at the centenary celebrations of Bethania C M chapel, Morriston, 1978 (1/12); 'The Effects of Tourism in Wales', a paper presented at the Celtic Congress, St Austell, Cornwall, 1975 (1/22); and a tribute to Huw T Edwards (1/33).

The file includes a printed preliminary bibliography and a letter from John Harries, 19 Sept. 1989, enclosing a revised Gwyn Thomas listing for Harries's A Bibliographical Guide to Twenty-Four Modern Anglo-Welsh Writers; and detailed lists of the articles produced for Punch magazine and The Teacher newspaper, noting in particular those articles which had not been published in the Pick of Punch or A Hatful of Humours.
