Glamorgan, containing records of payments to members of the Solid Rock of Wales Society ('Cymdeithas Cadarn Graig y Cymry') meeting at the Harp, Penllwynderi, Merthyr, together with other miscellaneous accounts and memoranda, including an account of William Howel's journey with Abel Evans (d. 1866) and the Mormons from Merthyr to St Louis, Missouri, 1849 (ff. 79-81); additions, 1859-1868, in the hand of Rowland Thomas's son, William R. Thomas, include verses in Welsh (ff. 26v, 119v), and brief details of literary competitions at the National Eisteddfod, Rhuthun, 1868 (ff. 118v-19).

The work portrays Arthur Parfitt's involvement with the St John's Ambulance movement, and with the struggle to provide basic First Aid facilities at the pithead in South Wales collieries during the early part of the 20th century.

Letters, papers, press cuttings, photographs and other illustrations, etc., [c. 1853]-[c. 1869], dealing mainly with the statue by John Gibson, R.A. (1790-1866) called 'The Tinted Venus' and probably collected by Mrs Robert Berthon Preston of Liverpool. There are numerous letters from Gibson to Mr & Mrs Preston, the other correspondents including Mr Preston, Owen Jones (1809-1874), Benjamin E. Spence (1822-1866), Lady Eastlake (1809-1893) and persons connected with the International Exhibition of 1862 held in London, where 'The Tinted Venus' was exhibited.
