Halsingod, accounts and medical recipes

A manuscript, said to be from the Dre-wen district, Newcastle Emlyn, containing (pp.1-41) eight 'halsingod' carols by David Davies [?vicar of Bridell, co. Pembroke, see Geraint Bowen, "Yr Halsingod", Transactions of the Honourable Society of Cymmrodorion, 1945, p. 88]. Two of the 'halsingod' are said to have been composed in 1667 and 1672, but they were all copied between 1723 and 1727. At the end of the manuscript (pp. 315-323) are details of financial loans made to farmers [in the Crymych and Llanfyrnach areas of co. Pembroke] between 1777 and 1790. Also included (pp. 213-288) is a transcript of a medical work entitled "Pro Bono Publico the Sick Man's Companion or Dr Nevett's Mite to his fellow Creatures".

T. Crawshay, chairman of the Canal Company (ff. 3-14).

Log book of the Lord Nelson,

Log book, 1810-1812 (watermarks 1807, 1809), of the sailing ship 'Lord Nelson', employed by the Admiralty transporting cargo including provisions, soldiers, horses and mules, mainly in connection with the Peninsular War, usually sailing in convoy and with Naval escorts.
The ship sailed from Deptford to Gibraltar, Dec. 1810-April 1811 (ff. 1-13); to Valetta, Messina and Cadiz, May-Oct. 1811 (ff. 15 verso-39); from Gibraltar to Portsmouth, Dec. 1811-Jan. 1812 (ff. 41 verso-50); then back to Gibraltar, Feb.-April 1812 (f. 52-61). She spent the remainder of 1812 in the Mediterranean, visiting Palma (Majorca), Mahón (Minorca), Alicante, Palermo and Messina (ff. 61-89). The volume also acts as a harbour log, recording extended stays at Valetta, May-Aug. 1811 (ff. 20 verso-25), Gibraltar, Oct.-Dec. 1811 (ff. 39-41) and Mahón, May-July 1812 (ff. 64-66). The volume is written in a hand resembling that of NLW MS 15462D.

A volume of music for the harp, [c. 1764], including compositions by, and variations on the work of, Handel and John Parry Ddall of Rhiwabon. The manuscript is in two hands: possibly that of Robert Edwards, a pupil of John Parry (ff. 1-14, 24 verso-26, 36 verso-40), and possibly that of Thomas Roberts (ff. 14 verso-24, 26 verso-36, 40 verso-42a).

The diary, 1916-1917, of Edmund Davies, Dyffryn Ardudwy, Merionethshire, containing an account of his service with the 17th Royal Welch Fusiliers during the First World War.
The diary, which begins in April 1916, records postings in France including action in the trenches and ends in February 1917 when the diarist was injured at the Ypres Salient in Belgium. Papers connected with the diary have been filed separately (NLW MS 23060C).

Pocket diary of Anne Griffiths (1876-1949), Troed-y-rhiw, previously of Blaencerdin-fach, Ffostrasol, co. Cardigan, using Dyddiadur yr Annibynwyr for 1930. The brief daily entries in Welsh relate to personal, domestic and agricultural matters, local events, and services at Horeb and Bwlch-y-groes Congregational chapels and Capel Cynon church.

Pocket diaries of the Reverend John Jenkins (1779-1853, DWB), Baptist minister at Hengoed, co. Glamorgan, 1809-1853, author, editor and publisher. The diaries run from 1819 to 1853 with gaps for 1820-1821, 1824, 1832, 1834 (covers only remaining) and 1847; many are incomplete, with two leaves only extant for 1819, the period 1 January - 13 February only for 1841 and September - December only for 1826 and 1848. The brief entries, in Welsh, record preaching engagements and sermon texts, and other details in connection with John Jenkins's ministry; there are also references to his writings, notably his Esponiad, to his printing and publishing work, to the sale of his publications, and to his sons Titus Jenkins, Baptist minister, John Jenkins, missionary, and Llewelyn Jenkins, publisher. The diaries for 1829 and 1830 contain references to the building of a new place of worship at Hengoed. Also included are personal accounts and others relating to the publication and sale of books.
