Written at National Liberal Club, Whitehall Place, S.W. The Boer War - Roberts crossed the Vaal on the Queen's birthday. Manchester is 'a perfect rout. Still it makes dissolution more difficult. It leaves the Tories without a decent excuse for going to the Country. But it will be time enough to talk of that when the Boers are beaten to the ground. We are a long way off that yet'.
