Three scrapbooks of press cuttings and papers assembled by Edward James (1885-1971), London editor of the Western Mail and South Wales Echo, 1913-59, a barrister, prominent Conservative and member of Holborn Borough Council, 1935-65:. Press cuttings and papers, 1903-28, many relating to the Tonypandy Riots of 1910, the abortive home rule campaign of E. T. John, 1910-14, and the Suffragette campaigns (Edward James gave evidence in 1913 in a court case against Mrs Emmeline Pankhurst) (NLW ex 1543). Press cuttings and papers, 1914-40, many concerning the implementation of the Welsh Church Act, 1920, notably its disendowment clauses, and the devolution campaigns of the early 1920s, together with letters from Sir Alfred Robbins, 1923, J. Drafts, notes and proofs of the volume Cerddi Saunders Lewis which was edited by Professor R. Geraint Gruffydd. The first file relates to the first five editions published by the Gregynog Press in 1986, while the second file relates to the paperback second edition published by the University of Wales Press, Cardiff, 1992.

Miscellaneous printed material formerly in the possession of Madame Lucie Barbier (nee Hirsch, 1875-1963), singer, pianist and concert organiser, including programme of the National Eisteddfod, Aberystwyth, 1916, and an appeal on behalf of homeless French Protestants, [c.1915-16]. 'Y Rhufeiniaid ym Mhrydain', a typescript translation into Welsh by the Reverend Awstin Maximilian Thomas (d. 1990), Brynsiencyn, of the Latin text of R. W. Moore, The Romans in Britain. A Selection of Latin Texts (London, 1937), together with a related letter, 1982, from Gerallt Lloyd Owen, Gwasg Gwynedd (NLW ex 1430); and his typescript translation from Latin into Welsh of the sixty-two letters of Saint Augustine in J. H. Baxter, St Augustine, Select Letters (London, 1930) (NLW ex 1431).
