A volume in the hand of Daniel Silvan Evans containing a list of 'Words occurring in the Welsh Bible which are not, and cannot become part of the language', and observations on words and expressions used in the Welsh Bible and in the Revised Version of the New Testament (1881).

A volume in the hand of D. Silvan Evans containing 'awdlau' and 'cywyddau' by Wiliam Lleyn. The transcripts were made c. 1869 and appear to be taken from more than one source, e.g. a manuscript of Paul Panton, 1779, and a manuscript of W. H. Mounsey based on a manuscript in the hand of [Owen Jones] 'Owen Myfyr'. At the end are 'Tri o'r Chwe Englyn a ddywedir i Ddafydd ab Gwilym wneuthur ar ei Glaf-wely' transcribed by D. Silvan Evans from a manuscript in the hand of ?D[avid] Ellis [Cricieth]. Beginning at the end are three pages of notes on 'Matter'.

A volume of 'cywyddau', etc. transcribed by W[illiam] H[enry] Mounsey in 1859 from manuscripts in the British Museum ('Barddoniaeth sef Casgliad O Waith Beirdd Cymru. Tynwyd allan y Casgiad hwn O Ysgriflyfrau yn yr Amgueddfa Brydeinig Genyf fi, Wiliam Henri Mounsey O Gaerliwelyd [sic] yn Sir Cwmberland. 1859'), together with annotations by D. Silvan Evans. The poets represented are Iolo Goch, Llywelyn Moel y Pantri, Gruffydd Gryg, Iorwerth Cyriog, Gutto'r Glyn, Iorwerth Vynglwyd, Lewis Morganwg, Sefnyn, Sippyn Cyfeiliog, Syr D[afydd] Trefor, Robin Ddu ('hynaf, o Fôn'), Rhys Goch Eryri, Doctor Sion Cent, Rhys Brydydd, Llawdden, Dafydd Nanmor, Dafydd ap Edmwnt, Guttyn Owain, Deio ap Ieuan Du, Llewelyn ap Guttyn, Gruffydd Hiraethog, William Cynwal, Sion Tudur, William Lleyn, Morus Kyffin, Mredydd ap Rhys, Robert Dai Llwyd and Sion Gruffudd ('o Llanddyfnan'). There is a list of contents ('Cynnwysiad') at the beginning of the volume. Among the illustrations and cut-outs mounted on the fly-leaves and in blank spaces in the manuscript are engravings of Montgomery Castle, the Fall of the Ogwen, Conway Tubular Bridge and Castle, Llyn Idwall, Rhaiadr Du near Tan y Bwlch, Moel y Gest, Denbigh, Snowden [sic] and Llanberis Lake, Valle Cruces Abbey and Pont Aberglaslyn. The spine is lettered 'Casgliad o Waith Beirdd Cymru. W. H. Mounsey. 1859'.

A volume entitled 'Telyn y Cyssegr. 1851', being a collection of hymns and religious poems, including translations, by D. Silvan Evans. Many of the compositions were published in D. Silvan Evans: Telyn Dyfi (Aberystwyth, 1898).

Twenty-eight letters, [18]80-1903, from the Reverend John Owen (1854-1926), successively Welsh professor and classical lecturer at St David's College, Lampeter, warden and headmaster of Llandovery College, dean of St Asaph, principal of St David's College, Lampeter and bishop of St Davids, twenty-seven to D. Silvan Evans (college examinations, acknowledging congratulations, the Welsh Prayer Book committee, etc.) and one to [J. H. Silvan] Evans, 1903 (sympathy on the death of his father, the completion of the dictionary).

Nine letters, 1871-6, to D. Silvan Evans from the Reverend John Peter ('Ioan Pedr'; 1833-77), Bala (articles by 'Ioan Pedr' in Y Traethodydd [1872-3], offering to copy vocabularies in the British Museum, Mr Mackensie of Glasgow proposes to call on the addressee); and six letters, one incomplete, [18]73-84, to D. Silvan Evans from [Robert John Pryse] 'Gweirydd ap Rhys' (1807-89), Bangor and Holyhead (an invitation to adjudicate at the Bangor Eisteddfod, family matters, the fate of two sacks of old letters addressed to the writer).

Eight letters, 1858 [?1859]-74, from Tho[ma]s Stephens, Merthyr Tydfil, seven of which are addressed to D. Silvan Evans and one to W. W. E. Wynne, Peniarth (copy). Accompanying one of the letters to D. Silvan Evans are transcripts of four letters, 1846-9, from the Reverend Walter Davies ('Gwallter Mechain'), writing from Penmaen Dovey n[ea]r Machynlleth and Llanrhaiadr, Oswestry, to Thomas Stephens ('Casnodyn'). Subjects touched upon include D. Silvan Evans's orthography [i.e. Llythyraeth yr iaith Gymraeg], the 'Madogwys', the Llangollen essay, the (new) bishop of Bangor, the Hengwrt manuscripts and articles for Archaeologia Cambrensis.

Ten letters, 1869-94, to D. Silvan Evans from R[ichard] Williams, Welshpool and Celynog, Newtown (the 'Topographicon', some names of streams in Montgomeryshire, efforts to obtain a pension for the addressee, gifts of books).

A small notebook which belonged to J. H. Davies containing bibliographical references to the Reverend Peter Williams, mainly from William Rowlands (Gwilym Lleyn) (ed. D. Silvan Evans), Llyfryddiaeth y Cymry (Llanidloes, 1869), together with a few biographical notes. At the reverse end of the volume are a few notes relating to (?) Cardiganshire Highways Committee and some observations on Sir Owen M. Edwards, perhaps for an article or an address.

The original manuscript of 'Llyfryddiaeth y Cymry', 1546-1800, in the autograph of the Reverend William Rowlands ('Gwilym Lleyn'), with additions and corrections by D. Silvan Evans, including a few contributions in the autograph of Richard Williams [then of Welshpool, afterwards of Celynog, Newtown], etc. A note in pencil indicates that pp. 10 and 333 are wanting; other pages have been cut into two or more pieces.

Accounts of rent charges for the parish of Llanymowddwy, 1868-1874 [?by D. Silvan Evans].

A copy of Charles Ashton: Gweithiau Iolo Goch gyda nodiadau hanesyddol a beirniadol (Croesoswallt, 1896), with annotations, some if not all by J. H. Davies. Inside the volume is a notebook probably in the autograph of Charles Ashton containing a list of the poems of Iolo Goch, with particulars of sources, etc., a shorter list in the autograph of D. Silvan Evans with a reference to a manuscript (then at Llanwrin, now Cwrtmawr MS 325) in the autograph of Wiliam Henri [sic] Mounsey, 1859, and a letter, [19]22, from Henry Lewis, Swansea to Principal [J. H.] Davies.

Davies mainly from the Golden Grove Book of Pedigrees, L1659-L1675, followed by a number of holograph letters, etc., the details of which are as follows: Samuel Roberts ['S. An incomplete copy in the author's hand of some of the items of verse contained in D. Silvan Evans, Telyn Dyvi (Aberystwyth, 1898). There are some minor differences between this and the printed copy.

Lists of books with prices, offered by D. Williams, London to the Reverend Robert Williams, Llangernyw and Conway. Most of the books are in Welsh or relate to Wales. There are notes, dated 1831-4, appended to three of the lists, relating to books available and books for which the addressee had enquired. A list of 212 Welsh books, published between 1802 and 1890, sent by [Charles Ashton] to [Daniel Silvan Evans], with a note appended (the above list contained all the books not purely theological out of about 600 books which the writer had recorded, he would like to see a copy of the 'Bardd Cwsg' edited by the addressee and also his note in Revue Celtique on Llyfryddiaeth y Cymry.).

Thirty nine letters, 1873-81, from Edward Breese, Morva Lodge, Portmadoc to D. Silvan Evans, largely concerning books and manuscripts. Reference to what the Council calls the 'revolt' of the staff at Aberystwith [sic], 1879.

Seventeen letters, 1888-93, to D. Silvan Evans from [the Reverend] T[homas] Briscoe, Holyhead mainly concerning points of translation (Biblical, the Apostles' Creed, etc.), with references also to the non-resident canonry offered to the addressee.

Nineteen letters, 1874-[89], to D. Silvan Evans from B. [i.e. Elizabeth] Johnes, afterwards Lady Hills-Johnes, Dolaucothy, Llandeilo (mention of the Bishop [? Connop Thirlwall], folk customs, requesting translations, literary matters, expressions of sympathy, etc.).
