A small group of the papers of (Morgan) Goronwy Rees (1909-1979), former Principal of the University College of Wales Aberystwyth, 1953-1957, including correspondence, articles, notebooks and photographs. They relate mostly to Goronwy Rees's literary work, his resignation as Principal of the University of Wales, Aberystwyth and his links to the Cambridge Spy Ring and Soviet espionage.

This file contains a copy of the radio broadcast in September 1953 by Goronwy Rees on his return to Aberystwyth as Principal of the University College of Wales. There is also a copy of the text of his inaugural lecture there, October 1953.

O.M. Edwards: letterbook

The series comprises a letterbook containing copies of letters written by O.M. Edwards to various members of his family including his parents and brothers. They were all written whilst he was a student at Aberystwyth. Some of the letters are lengthy and describe in detail events at the college and locally at Aberystwyth. They also contain references to Llanuwchllyn and to members of the Edwards family.

This file of letters, which came to light after the rest of the O. M. Edwards Papers had been catalogued, comprises detailed letters penned by Edwards while a student at the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth. They describe his surroundings, experiences and activities in some detail and give a vivid portrait of a student's life at Aberystwyth in the early 1880s.

The file comprises letters relating mainly to matters arising from the House of Lords and to Lady White's public work, notably in relation to environmental concerns. Some concern Welsh affairs, among them devolution, the affairs of the Honourable Society of Cymmrodorion, and the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth. There are occasional references to the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth, and to the establishment of the National Library of Wales.

The letters, 1895-1925, discuss Welsh political life, the attempts to regenerate Mudiad Cymru Fydd, historical records relating to Flintshire, the foundation of the National Library of Wales, its location at Aberystwyth, and appeals for increased government funding and the passage of the copyright legislation, developments at the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth, and the federal University of Wales, the possibility of establishing a Public Record Office for Wales, and the selection of Liberal candidates in Welsh constituencies for the 'Coupon' General Election of December 1918.

The letters, 1897-1924, discuss the work of the Guild of Graduates of the University of Wales, especially its Literature Section, the publication of Gweithiau Morgan Llwyd o Wynedd, and the work of re-printing the Welsh classics by the Guild. There are also references to the internal politics of the University of Wales and the colleges at Aberystwyth and Bangor and to other appointments in which Sir John Edward Lloyd had an interest.

The events covered in the various typescripts date back to 1753.
