NLW Deeds

  • GB 0210 NLWDEEDS
  • Fonds
  • [c. 1250]-1976

This is a series of deeds and documents of all kinds, currently running from number 1 to 1961, which have come to the Library singly or in groups too small to be treated as archives or collections. Less than 1 per cent of the Department's holdings of deeds and documents is comprised in NLW Deeds; the remainder will be found among archives or collections. Nevertheless, NLW Deeds includes some valuable documents. Several series which had existed in parallel with NLW Deeds were closed in 1981: NLW Wills, NLW Manorial, NLW Miscellaneous Records and a series known as 'Miscellaneous Documents' which had been arranged by county. The first two series have now been subsumed in NLW Deeds.

NLW Facsimiles.

  • GB 0210 NLWFACS
  • Fonds

This series of records includes photographs, photostats and photocopies. Much of the material consists of facsimiles of manuscripts and archives in other libraries and record offices. There is also, however, material of which the original is in private hands. A point to be reflected on is that the boundary between manuscripts and facsimiles has become very indistinct since the arrival of cheap copying machines and printers. While authors' typescripts or carbons have long been accepted as manuscripts, today a photocopy or print may have the same potential status as an author's holograph.

NLW Microfilms,

  • GB 0210 NLWMFLMS
  • Fonds
  • 1950x2000.

The nucleus of the collection of NLW Microfilms is microfilm of manuscripts in Welsh and of Welsh interest in other major libraries: the British Library; Jesus College and the Bodleian Library, Oxford; Cambridge University libraries; the Hereford Cathedral manuscripts; Welsh material from the Public Record Office, now the TNA; the Bangor MSS; and some from other record offices in the United Kingdom, and overseas libraries and archive repositories. The Cardiff manuscripts (over 4,000 in number) are listed in a separate catalogue (Cardiff MSS on Microfilm). Commercially produced microfilms and microfiche are also not included in this catalogue.

NLW Minor Deposits

  • GB 0210 MINDEPS
  • Fonds
  • [1400x1420]-1998

This is a numbered series currently (August 2006) reaching 1615. The deposits included in it are minor in the sense that they consist of single items, or small groups of documents or papers where the group has been treated as a single item. There is one medieval missal, a few literary manuscripts, a large number of registers and other records from chapels, and much else.

NLW Rolls

  • GB 0210 NLWROLLS
  • Fonds
  • 1222-2017

The material listed in this series consists mainly of pedigree rolls. It also comprises a number of letters patent, grants of arms, addresses, outsize documents and non-manuscript items.
