Papers accumulated by Edgar Chappell during his research on agriculture and rural conditions in Wales, relating mainly to his work as Special Investigator for the Ministry of Agriculture's enquiry into the wages and conditions of agricultural workers in south Wales in 1918.

Bound typescript copies and two prefatory memoranda of reports on housing and social conditions in Aberavon and Port Talbot, Merthyr Tydfil, Neath, Newport, the Rhondda and the Swansea Valley. These 'Urban Investigation' reports were compiled by Chappell during his work with Herbert Stanley Jevons on economic conditions in south Wales.

There are also letters concerning Lleufer Thomas's re-appointment to the Library's Court of Governors and to the Council in 1937.
