Dr Thomas Jones, Gregynog, Newtown. Encloses the letter received from Mrs Mary Silyn Roberts for Huw T. Edwards to forward to David Thomas. When he returns to Aberystwyth he will search out the letters which he received from Silyn Roberts and copies of what he wrote in his various works. Is prepared to guarantee £50 if the volume [David Thomas's biography of Silyn Roberts] makes a loss. Welsh.

Dr Thomas Jones, Brynhir, Penglais, Aberystwyth. Discusses finance for the proposed Llanrwst Theatre. Recalls his experiences with the Mountain Ash Pavilion which later became a boxing saloon: 'No doubt North Wales will behave far better in such matters'. Possible contributions from the Arts Council, the Denbighshire County Council and the Eisteddfod Association. The Pilgrim Trust should be approached as a last resort. Huw T. Edwards should learn to take it easy.

Sir David Maxwell Fyfe, Home Secretary, Whitehall, London SW1. Hopes to pay one or two visits to Wales during the parliamentary recess. He would very much like to meet the Council for Wales and Monmouthshire. Understands that he can do so at Cardiff on 15 January. Hopes to be accompanied by Mr D. T. Llewellyn, the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State, who is to devote himself to Welsh affairs. For reply see A2/58.

S. Kenneth Davies, Collingdon Road, Cardiff, Chairman of the Welsh Advisory Council for Civil Aviation. Believes that Huw T. Edwards should raise the matter of Roose Airport in his deliberations with Sir David Maxwell Fyfe. Is alarmed at Sir David's wish to confer with other interested bodies such as Cardiff Corporation. Nothing should deter Aer Lingus from operating between Dublin and Cardiff this year to and from Rhoose. Perhaps Vernon Lawrence should be brought into the discussion.

H. A. Strutt, Home Office, Whitehall, London SW1. Will submit Huw T. Edwards's letter of the 24th to the Home Secretary. Sir David will be most grateful for the trouble which Huw T. Edwards has taken over the Coronation visit to Wales. The additional twenty miles suggested would be an extra burden for the Queen. She can visit either Merthyr Tydfil or the Rhondda, but to attempt both would be too much of a strain. 'Secret and Personal'.

H. A. Strutt as in A1/119. It has been proposed by the Ministry of Civil Aviation that the present membership of the Welsh Advisory Council for Civil Aviation should be re-nominated en bloc. Would welcome Huw T. Edwards's views. As the government has changed, the writer thinks that it would be desirable to have some representation from the government side of the House of Commons. There are at present only Labour MPs on the Council. 'Personal'.

Sir David Maxwell Fyfe, Home Secretary, Whitehall, London SW1. The Government has accepted the recommendation of the Catto Committee that there should be a separate return of governmental revenue and expenditure in Scotland. A similar return for Wales is under consideration. Is very much aware of the increased resources which the preparation of such a return would necessarily entail. Is, therefore, dubious about recommending such a change to his colleagues. But would welcome Huw T. Edwards's personal opinion on the matter. 'Personal and Confidential' For reply see A2/73.

H. A. Strutt, Home Office, Whitehall, London SW1. Hopes that Huw T. Edwards is recovering well from his emergency operation for hernia. Can do nothing for the Australian nurses who must get places from the Australian High Commissioner who has been alloted several thousand places on the various government stands. Regrets his inability to assist in this matter. For reply see A2/85.
