The file comprises settlements involving John Wynne Griffith of Garn, including his marriage settlement with Jane Wynne of Plasnewydd, 1785, preceded by a recovery of the Denbighshire and Flintshire estates, 1784; a settlement between J.W.G. and his mother, Jane Griffith, 1801, to compromise on disagreements regarding her annuity and interest on £3000 from her husband's estate, and to compensate her sister, Elizabeth, for non-payment of debts and interest on a legacy bequeathed by the will of her aunt, Mary Hughes (1782); disentailments of the Caernarfonshire estate, 1811, and the Denbighshire and Flintshire estates, 1814; a subsequent conveyance of 1814 by John Wynne Griffith to a trustee of his eldest surviving son, Robert, of lands in Gyffin and Caerhun, in return for raising £6000 for his younger children out of the estates in Denbighshire and Merionethshire which Robert had recently inherited from his mother; the marriage settlement of Harriet Griffith and John Price of Brynbella, 1827; and a new financial settlement to benefit J.W.G.'s surviving younger children, 1833, necessitated by the deaths of Robert Griffith in 1819 and Richard Augustus Griffith, whom Robert had named one of his heirs, in 1831.
