History

Richard Jenkin Ellis (1888-1976), of Aberystwyth, Cardiganshire, was an influential figure in the area in the 20th century. He started his working life as a plumber, and eventually became Inspector of Works at UCW, Aberystwyth. He was an active Liberal politician, and was a member of the Aberystwyth Borough Council from 1938 to 1970, serving twice as Mayor. He was also a member of Cardiganshire County Council between 1949 and 1974, chairing the Planning Committee and the Water Board. He was an Oddfellow and advised people on pensions and insurance matters. Richard Jenkin Ellis was also a prominent member of the National Federation of Building Trades Operatives.
