Biographical history
Edward Jones (Bardd y Brenin) was a collector, arranger and publisher of Welsh harp music, a literary and musical historian, and an antiquary and collector of manuscripts. Around 1790, he was appointed harpist to the Prince of Wales (later George IV). Jones published some twenty volumes of songs arranged for harp, harpsichord and piano and which included his own compositions; he was also the first to publish a collection of 'penillion'. His main works are considered to be the three volumes entitled Musical and Poetical Relicks of the Welsh Bards (1784), The Bardic Museum (1802) and Hen Ganiadau Cymru (1820). He was considered a talented performer in his own right. John Freeman Milward Dovaston (1782-1854) of West Felton, Shropshire, was a writer and antiquary.
