Chronologies of Bishop William Lloyd,

Three unbound volumes in the hand of Bishop William Lloyd, containing chronological tables of important world events, respectively covering the periods 508 BC-69 AD, 1570-90, and 1600-81. Fragments of two early seventeenth century deeds have been used as protective covers for MSS. 11327 and 11329.

A volume of sermon notes, in different hands, belonging on 28 April, 1825, to David Arthur of Pantycelyn, later co-pastor of Builth Baptist Church. Pages 1-74 are described in a colophon as 'cyfieithiad pigion o Gyfansoddiad Saesnig' (translations of selections from English compositions) by Josiah Evans (d. 1792), pastor of Pantycelyn Baptist Church. At the beginning and the end and in occasional blank spaces in the volume are written Welsh hymns, and there is at the end also a list of the sermons comprised in pages in pages 1-88. On page 109 is recorded the marriage of Rees Arthur [son of David Arthur] and Ann Arthur, his wife, 5 December, 1851.

A volume of transcripts by H. D. Jones, Llandrillo, of title-deeds and subsidiary documents, 1715-1846, relating to properties in the township of Vaerdre Isa, parish of Llandrillo, Merioneth, and in Talybidwell and Thwithrine [Gwythrania], parish of Bryn Eglwys in Iâl, and in the parish of Llanlidan, Denbighshire. Among the records are the pre-nuptial settlement of Edward Rogers of Bryn Eglwys in Iâl and Gwen Morgan, daughter of Morgan Pugh of Llandrillo, 1724; probate records of Morgan Pugh of Vaerdre, parish of Llandrillo, 1740, John Edwards of Maesyllan, parish of Rhiwabon, Denbighshire [son and heir of Edward Rogers of Bryn Eglwys in Iâl], 1806, Edward Rees of Wern y pennant, parish of Llanfechan, Montgomeryshire, 1819 (with administration annexed, 1822), and John Rees of Llanrhaiadr yn Mochnant, Denbighshire, 1846; and a coloured plan of allotments of common in the parish of Llandrillo, 1837. Also included in the volume is a schedule of title-deeds, 1848-1925, relating to a property previously in the possession of Sir Robert Williames Vaughan, Bart., of Rug.

The manor of Llandaff,

A volume of documents in support of the claim of Francis James Mathew, 2nd earl of Llandaff in the kingdom of Ireland, to the manor of Llandaff and to messuages and lands in the parishes of Llandaff, Whitchurch otherwise Witchurch, and Canton in Glamorgan. The documents comprise a pedigree showing the descent of the Earl of Llandaff from George Mathew of Thurles in Ireland; an abstract of title and an additional abstract of title based on sixteen deeds and documents of the period 1553-1814, among them being an extensive survey of the manor made in 1740; and an injunction issued by the Court of Chancery, prohibiting the sale of three fifth parts of an estate in Glamorgan or the disposal of trust monies charged thereon pending an answer by the Earl of Llandaff and John Evans to the bill of complaint of Kitty Steele, widow, sole executrix of Jonathan Steele formerly of Denmark Hill and late of the parish of Saint Mary Newington, Surrey, deceased. The volume is labelled on the upper cover:- 'The claim of the Earl of Llandaff to the manor of Llandaff, 1810'.

Letters Close of King Henry VIII to Sir Edwarde Northe, knight, Chancellor of the Court of Augmentations of the Revenues of the Crown, permitting Sir William Herbert, knight, to buy two thousand 'fothers' of lead anywhere in England or Wales or the Marches at £4. 6s. 8d. per 'fother'. Given under the sign manual at the manor of Oatlands, 7 December, 1546.

A volume of holograph poetry including 'Englynion y Credo' by 'T[wm] Pedrog', unsigned 'englynion' entitled 'Seh Yootuch. Rebmetpes 25 1798', and 'englynion' entitled 'Yr Ochenaid' by 'Tudwal Bach or Cwmmwd'. The latter series is ascribed to 'Twm Pedrog' in John Jones: Cynfeirdd Lleyn (1905). On the last page of the volume is the following inscription:- 'Thos. Williams' Book 1797. Thomas Williams was born at Llan-bedrog, on Wednes[da]y the 25th Day of May, in the Year of ou[r] Lord 1774. Baptized the 31st of May follow[in]g. Bapt[ize]d Twm Pedrog by Dafydd Ddu o'r Eryri at Penmorfa in an Eisteddfod 26th of May 1795'.

Index to the Gilfach pedigree books

Two volumes, written at the end of the nineteenth century, by Thomas Morgan Joseph-Watkin, Portcullis Pursuivant of Arms, serving as an index to the Gilfach Pedigree Books (now NLW MS 23967i-iiE).
The first volume (23968iE) contains letters A-Pe of an index to family names, continued with letters Ph-Y in the second volume (23968iiE, pp. 181-315), which also contains an index to place-names (pp. 2-172). A pedigree chart by Joseph-Watkin, compiled [1894x1913] (NLW Rolls 62), shows that he was himself related to the Gilfach family.

Gilfach pedigree books

A two-volume collection of pedigrees, mainly of South Wales families, compiled during the 1830s (23967iE watermark 1828; 23967iiE watermark 1831), with some later additions, by David Jones Lewis, Gilfach, Llanwrda, Carmarthenshire.
A duplicate set of these volumes, also written by David Jones Lewis, are the 8 volumes of Gilfach MSS in the College of Arms, London (see Francis Jones, A Catalogue of Welsh Manuscripts in the College of Arms (London, 1988), pp. 69-71), which are dated by colophon to 1830. This duplication is mentioned in a note, dated 8 July 1895, in 23967iE, p. 1, by Lewis's grandson, David Jones Lewis of Llwyncelyn, Llanwrda, who has also overwritten parts of the earlier text, as well as adding pedigrees relating to the Lewis family, [1895] (pp. 1438-50), and a copy of 'an account of the Lewis family in the handwriting of my late grandfather', 1896 (pp. 1494-6). There are minor additions relating to the Lewis family, to at least 1978, in several different hands (pp. 1438-41, 1448-50). A copy of an unpublished account, [1990s], of the Lewis family of Gilfach and Llwyncelyn, including references to the Pedigree Books, is now NLW ex 2511. An index to these two volumes is now NLW MS 23968i-iiE.
