A composite volume, with manuscript additions, belonging to S. Dawson, York, 1717, containing a copy of Benjamin Hoadly, The Nature of the Kingdom, of Church, of Christ. A Sermon Preach'd before the King ... March 31, 1717 (London, 1717) and of pamphlets relating to the 'Bangorian Controversy', the political and religious furore which the sermon provoked. The manuscript additions comprise transcripts (item 10, 25 pp.) by S. Dawson of an exchange between the main protagonists Benjamin Hoadly, bishop of Bangor, White Kennett, the then dean of Peterborough, and William Nicolson, bishop of Carlisle, published in The Daily Courant and other newspapers, 6-24 July 1717.

Typescript transcripts of seventeen letters, 1788-1812, from the Reverend Thomas Burgess (1756-1837), bishop of St David's and later of Salisbury, to the Classical scholar, the Reverend Charles Burney (1757-1817), mainly concerning the publication of Greek and Latin texts (purchased with NLW MS 23701C).

Copies of a Latin letter from Llewelyn, Prince of Wales (c. 1225-1282) to Edward the First (1239-1307) written from Nefyn, 2 February 1281 or 1282, with an English translation, also portions of Queen Elizabeth I's (1533-1603) warrant for the holding of the Caerwys Eisteddfod, 1568, and of a certificate granting the degree of Pencerdd to Simwnt Fychan (c. 1530-1606) at that eisteddfod; also included is a translation of a grant to Thomas Egerton (1540?-1617) of the chantry of St John in the town of Ruthland [sic], as well as other premises and manorial rights, 1589.

Transcripts by David Samwell (1751-1798) of poetry and of letters from Goronwy Owen (1723-1769) to Lewis Morris (1701-1765) and William Elias (1708-1787), Plas y Glyn, Anglesey; also included in the volume is a stipple-engraved portrait of Robert Hughes (Robin Ddu o Fôn) (fl. 1793).
