Research and personal papers of Professor Morgan Watkin (1878-1970), scholar and university professor of French at Cardiff and Swansea. The archive also includes a small group of papers of his son, Dr Iestyn Morgan Watkin, once Chief Medical Officer for Cardiganshire and papers of the Jenkins' family (family of his wife).

A collection which includes Welsh, Latin and English vocabularies, miscellaneous notes and extracts, a diary of 1811, Latin and other school exercises and a fairly substantial amount of correspondence. Also forming part of this collection are manuscripts and documents connected with the family of Edwards of Chirk.

The papers relate mainly to R. A. Williams's period of active service, including his certificate of service, 1934-1945, programmes of services, concerts etc., 1941-1944, medical notes, 1941, and various miscellanea.

Papers of Richard Emrys Bonsall, mainly architectural papers relating to buildings in the Aberystwyth area, Cardiganshire, 1930-1964, including notebook with architectural notes, [c. 1930]-1935; diary of Hywel Owen Jones, 1930-1933; contract certificate counterfoils, 1938-1963; building specifications, 1946-1964; papers relating to alterations to the Wynnstay Arms Hotel, Oswestry and the Royal Hotel, Llangollen, 1955-1964; and copy letters from him, 1959-1961.

Research papers of R. F. Treharne and some later items, 1924-1974, mainly comprising notes, manuscript and typescript drafts, and proofs, of articles, books and lectures, together with related correspondence, all relating to mediaeval history, particularly the baronial reforms; together with a manuscript dissertation on Walter de Cantilupe, Bishop of Worcester, 1924, by Ellen Roberts, later Mrs Treharne.

The fonds comprises research material relating to drovers and drove roads in Wales, and in other parts of Britain and Ireland, reflecting R. G. Avent's interest in the subject. The papers include manuscript notes, notebooks and offprints from journals and magazines, together with some related publications. Also included is a card index containing references to relevant printed sources, some of which are cross-referenced with the notes.

Research papers of Professor R. George Thomas, mostly comprising typescript transcripts and photocopies of letters (the originals of which are held in English, American and Canadian repositories, and in private hands) from the poet Edward Thomas (1878-1917). The letters were assembled by R. George Thomas in preparation for his edition of Edward Thomas: Selected Letters (Oxford University Press, 1995), and are duplicates of copies deposited in the Edward Thomas Archive at Cardiff University.

Deeds and documents, 1686-1911, accumulated by R. H. Evans, relating to properties in parishes in south and west Caernarvonshire, Denbighshire, Cheshire and Lancashire, including miscellaneous correspondence and papers and particulars of mines in Llanengan, co. Caernarvon; manuscripts, papers and volumes relating to local government and the administration of justice in the counties of Caernarfon, Anglesey and Merioneth, 1685-1905; together with a manuscript volume of 'Old Welsh Melodies' collected by John Ceiriog Hughes, 'Ceiriog', Caersws, and presented by him to Nicholas Bennett, 1885.

Papers, [18 cent.]-[1876], from the library of Professor Richard Humphrey Richards, including a manuscript of John Roberts (Ieuan Gwyllt), Llyfr Tonau Cynnulleidfaol (Wrexham: Hughes, 1876), Ieuan Gwyllt's manuscript of a proposed English hymnal, and correspondence, 1860-1874, and notes of Ieuan Gwyllt; sermon notes, 1731-1763; and an eighteenth-century commonplace book.

Ellis relating to Aberystwyth Borough Council and Cardiganshire County Council, mainly concerning planning and water, 1937-1975; letters relating to administration of estates, 1902-1976; personal papers, certificates, and diaries of R. J. Ellis, 1910-1972; and a letter from Irish politician Tim Healy, 1886.

This collection comprises some of the papers of R. J. Rees's brother, Morgan James Rees, M.D., and of Abraham Roberts, Calvinistic Methodist minister, London.

Papers, 1843-1991, of the artist R. L. Gapper, including correspondence, plans and other material relating to artistic commissions undertaken by him; records and correspondence accumulated through his work as an administrator and adjudicator with the National Eisteddfod, and also as a lecturer in the University of Wales; and personal papers, including diaries and correspondence. Many of R. L. Gapper's own letters remain in the archive, since he often made copies of the letters he sent.
