Manuscripts from the library of Sir Owen Morgan Edwards (1858-1920), mostly belonging to the nineteenth century, and consisting of original copy of published material in the form of essays, short stories, original and translated poetry, collections of proverbs, etc.; also included in the collection are account books, sermons, diary entries, miscellaneous papers on various literary topics, and autograph letters of well-known Welsh figures.

Deeds, 1554-1915, relating to the Neuadd-fawr estates in Breconshire, Carmarthenshire, Cardiganshire and Radnorshire; together with some papers relating to the development of Llanwrtyd Wells, Breconshire, as a spa in the nineteenth century.

Papers of Charles William Nevill are not included.

The fonds comprises papers, 1950-2002, relating to the New Welsh Review, including correspondence, 1987-2001; editorial papers, 1989-1995 and 2000; contributions to the journal, 1988-2002; administrative papers, mostly concerning marketing and publicity, 1986-2001; together with various accumulated papers, 1950-2001. Papers donated in 1998, and described in NLW Minor Lists and Summaries 1999, have been incorporated within this archive.

Flint (Axton, Bistre, Caergwrle, Coleshill, Cwm, Cwm Uwchglan, Diserth, Estyn or Hope, Hawarden, Holywell, Hope, Hope Owen, Huriathicke, Kilken, Kinnerton, Mould, Newmarket, Northop, St Asaph, Shordley, Skeiviog, and Whitford), but also in cos Denbigh (Denbigh, Henllan, Llanrwst and Lleweny), Chester (Chester and Dodleston), Brecknock (Devynnock), Anglesey (Amlwch, Coedana, Llanerchymedd, Llanbadrug, Llanddyfnan, Llanfechell and Llanfihangel Tre'r Beurdd), Montgomery (Berth Lloyd) and Pembroke (Amroth). The main families were Mostyn of Mostyn Hall and Hope of Broughton and Hope.

Records of the Newport Playgoers' Society relating to the Society’s activities and comprising mainly volumes including programmes, typed notes and press cuttings relating to various meetings (including some minutes), readings, plays, one act plays, productions, lectures and broadcasting plays; various pamphlets relating to visits and special events; together with some statements of accounts and papers relating to the plan to build a new theatre for the Company.

Records relating to Newport West Conservative Association, 1917-1989, comprising minute books, 1917-1982, including those of the Women's Branch, 1926-1982; ward minutes, 1939-1967; account books, 1925-1978; and miscellaneous papers comprising a scrapbook of political leaflets, pamphlets, circulars, cuttings, etc., 1938-1947, electoral registers, 1988-1989, and copies of outgoing letters from the chairman, 1973.

Papers, 1966-2001, relating to the Newport West Labour Party; the Newport County Borough Council Labour Group; the Manufacturing, Science and Finance Union (MSF), Newport 9909 Branch; the South East Wales European Constituency Labour Party, and various election campaigns, including correspondence, minutes, financial records, reports and material relating to election campaigns.

An additional file of letters, 1956-1957, and printed leaflets etc., 2005-2006, relating to the Labour Party's activities in Newport West constituency were received. This group remains uncatalogued.

Additional papers of the donor, MP for Newport West and former member of Gwent County Council, mainly relating to local, Parliamentary and European elections, and in particular to the 2001 election. This group remains uncatalogued.

Family papers and estate records of the Griffin family of Newton House, Dixton, Monmouthshire, comprising deeds and documents, 1635-1869, relating mainly to properties in the parish of Dixton, and correspondence, 1818-1863, mainly relating to a dispute between Mary Griffin of Newton House and the vicar and churchwarden of St Peter church, Dixton, in 1862.

Deeds and documents relating to properties in Monmouthshire, mainly in Skenfrith, including the manor of Blackbrook, 1689-1887.

Literary papers of Niall Griffiths, 1962-2018, comprising material relating to all aspects of his career as a writer, and in particular the conception, research, writing and publication of his books, short stories, poems, articles and media scripts.

The archive contains language which some readers may find offensive. While much of Niall Griffiths's work does not employ such language, its use is integral to his writing style.
