A group of manuscripts that form part of an extensive collection of Pembrokeshire documents and papers from the offices of Messrs. Williams & Williams, solicitors, Haverfordwest.

The collection comprises records from the office of Williams & Williams, Haverfordwest, solicitors, largely deeds and draft deeds, mostly 19th century, and many relating to the Haverfordwest area of Pembrokeshire. In the course of their work, Williams & Williams accumulated legal and other papers relating to their clients interests, including the estates of Ambleston, Begelly, Brawdy, Camrose, Court House, Cwmgloyne, Hean Castle, Hodgeston, Hook, Manorbier, Manorowen, Orielton, Pigeonsford, Somerton, Treffgarne, Ty Gwynne, Walwyns Castle, Welsh Hook, Wilsons, Wolfsdale and Yelverton. There are also documents relating to the Fishguard Harbour Improvement Company, several railway companies and a large number of probate records and marriage settlements. There are also groups of deeds and documents relating mainly to properties in Carmarthenshire, Glamorganshire and Pembrokeshire. There are also documents relating to church properties, nonconformist chapels, poor rate papers, articles of apprenticeship and articles of partnership.

Papers of Helen Suggett, comprising typescripts, notes, proofs, typescript indexes and correspondence relating to the revision and indexing of English translations of the works of Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, 1963-1978, studies of Teilhard de Chardin, 1966-1977, and other theological studies, 1968-1977; research papers relating to Anglo-Norman documents, 1939-1968, and to the editing of the works of Thomas Sampson, 1941-1968; personal papers, 1937-1977; papers of Philip Suggett, including teaching notes on classical subjects; notes and newspaper cuttings relating to Mountain Ash and Aberdare, [1960s]-[1970s]; and letters, 1975, to Helen Suggett.

The archive comprises almost entirely of deeds relating to the Helygog estate, Brithdir, Merionethshire, 1616-1954.

Papers of the Jones family of Henblas, in the parish of Llanwnnog, Montgomeryshire, including deeds, 1611-1827, copy and draft wills and miscellaneous documents and letters, 1862-1933, veterinary recipes, 1809-20 cent., log book of the Llanwnnog National School, 1863-1876, and memoranda book kept by John Jones relating to his office as petty constable of the township of Pencoed in the parish of Llanwyddelan, 1809-1821.

Deeds, 1671-1863, relating to lands in the parish of Aberdaron, Caernarfonshire, mainly Hendre, later Hendrebach.

Deeds relating to the Hendrefelen estate, 1546-1885, in Cardiganshire, Brecon and Manchester, including a faculty from the bishop of St Davids enabling Edward Richard to set up a library at Ystrad Meurig.

Manuscripts, 1702-1901, comprising in the main of diaries, notebooks and other papers of Thomas Morgan, Dissenting minister at Henllan, Cardiganshire, and Delph and Morley, Yorkshire.

This collection forms one group of the many manuscripts acquired from time to time (together with numerous printed works) from Henry Blackwell, New York (born at Liverpool, 1851, died New York, 1928). This group includes 18th century light remarks and correspondence by a certain S. D. and J. B.; a transcript, in bardic script, of poetry by Gwalchmai, with illustrations by Hugh Maurice; minutes of a New York eisteddfod committee, 1883-1885, and a notebook recording details of the 1886 New York eisteddfod.

Papers relating to Henry Davies ('Abon'), 1884-1932, including poems, [c.1884]-1932; and letters and cards, 1895-1904.

Records, 1837-1955, of former local government bodies of Machynlleth, Montgomeryshire, and neighbouring parts of Merionethshire, comprising minute books, letter books, ledgers, account books, reports, valuations, registers and rate books of the Machynlleth Poor Law Union, 1837-1930, minute books, letter books, ledgers, account books, reports, valuations, registers and rate books of the Machynlleth Rural District Council, 1892-1957, a letter book and rate account books of the Mallwyd Urban District Council, 1922-1930, and minute books, account books, registers and other records of the Machynlleth and Estimaner (Ystumanner) Petty Sessions, 1853-1953, together with miscellaneous administrative, financial and personal papers, 1837-1931, from the offices of Henry Evans relating to clients, local government, local businesses, and other solicitors who practised in and around Machynlleth.

A collection which includes genealogical memoranda relating to the Watkins family of Brecon; a transcript of Hugh Thomas's History of Brecknockshire and of Jonathan Williams's History of Radnorshire; draft material by Gwenllian E. F. Morgan; transcripts of ballads and other verses and poetry in his own hand by the Reverend Walter Jones Williams; correspondence of Wilfred Seymour de Winton; a commonplace book of Stephen Jones, Glangwy, Diserth, Radnorshire; a tax assessor's warrant of 1845; material relating to the restoration of Builth Wells parish church, 1870-1878, and to Breconshire, 1813-1938.

A selection of manuscripts, [16 cent.]-[?1919], of the late Dr Henry Owen, from the Library at Poyston. They include the manuscript note-books of Dr Owen, and of Edward Laws, his friend and fellow worker on Pembrokeshire history. The older manuscripts include two in the hand of George Owen of Henllys; holograph letters of General Sir Thomas Picton (born at Poyston); and a rent roll of the rents belonging to the Bishop of St Davids, 1685.

Papers of Henry Richard and his family, [early 19 cent.]-1904, including correspondence, 1808-1904; travel journals, 1849-1886; a few items relating to education in Wales, 1870-1883; sermons by Ebenezer Richard, [early 19 cent.]-1834; a family register, 1809-1836; and papers of James Hughes (Iago Trichrug), [1800x1844].

Records relating to William's political activities have not survived.

These manuscripts form part of the Flintshire Historical Collection once in the possession of Henry Taylor (1845-1927), who was Town Clerk of Flint and whose best-known work is Historic Notices ... of the Borough and County-Town of Flint ..., published 1888. The collection comprises material largely of Flint and Flintshire interest and includes historical material, transcripts of documents and extracts from parish registers, minutes of borough meetings, pedigrees relating to notable families of the district, papers relating to parliamentary elections, correspondence, etc.
