Col. John Colby commanded it, including papers relating to the militia's tour of duty in Ireland, 1799-1800, which include papers relating to the trial and execution of Walter Baker, sentenced to death for conspiracy at Mallow, Ireland, 1799; papers relating to John Colby's court-martial, 1800; and deeds, accounts, and estate and family letters, 1786-1823, relating to the Orielton estate in Pembrokeshire and Anglesey, following the appointment of John Colby as receiver of that estate as a result of a legal dispute between members of the Owen family over the administration of the estate during the minority of Sir Hugh Owen.

NLW MSS 3641-4252 belonged to William Floyd (?1810-?1898), who spent many years at the Public Record Office - he applied for a ticket as from Bridgend, Glamorgan in 1856 - and in the British Museum engaged in research in the various types of records relating to the history of England and Wales preserved in those two institutions. With a few exceptions, most of which are described at the beginning of the collection, all the volumes are Floyd's notebooks and memoranda books. His collection, which had been presented to the London Library, of which he had been a member since its foundaton in 1841, was by that body transferred in 1899 to the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth at the time when the Welsh Library Committee of the College was accumulating material of Welsh interest to form a nucleus for the projected national library for Wales.

Frances Stevenson Family Papers

The fonds comprises a substantial group of letters and papers, 1911-1972, acquired by Frances as private secretary to Lloyd George, including some business papers, notebooks of reminiscences and printed items. There are letters from a number of prominent politicians and public figures. There is also a small group of letters and papers, 1912-1965, concerning Lloyd George himself, papers, 1933-1946, relating to Jennifer Longford's schooldays, and a few papers relating to other members of the Stevenson family, notably Frances's sister Muriel and brother Paul. The material in sub-fonds G was loaned by Mrs Ruth Nixon of Camberwell to the National Library of Wales to be digitised in March 2013 and subsequently returned to her a few months later. Some of this material was subsequently purchased by NLW in 2017 and catalogued as sub-fonds H. The 2017 purchase includes various articles about Lloyd George, a draft memorandum partly in the hand of Lloyd George and partly in the hand of Frances Stevenson regarding the early part of the First World War, letters from Frances Stevenson to her family, including some from the Versailles Peace Conference, notes following Lloyd George's speeches and papers relating to Jennifer Longford including letters between her and Lloyd George.
