The Samuel Holland Manuscripts are the papers of Samuel Holland (1803-92), a pioneer of the North Wales slate industry and Liberal member of Parliament for the county of Merioneth from 1870 to 1885.

Letters to Sam Adams from prominent literary figures, including material submitted to him by them for publication, and some related correspondence between other parties, together with files on Geraint Goodwin and Alun Lewis.

Papers of S. Islwyn Evans, 1923-1973, comprising his articles, essays and addresses, together with related press cuttings and other material, concerning the south Wales coalfield; also included are a few items concerning the history and geology of the coal industry in Gloucestershire and Somerset.

Rentals, surveys and accounts, 1334-1852, relating mainly to the lordship of Ruthin or Dyffryn Clwyd, Denbighshire; court records of the lordship of Ruthin, 1439-1850, including court books, 1718-1817, and court files, 1741-1849; estate correspondence, [early 17 cent.]-1848; and deeds, 1444-1854, relating to the lands of the lordship of Ruthin, mainly in Denbighshire. Most of the records relate to the period when the lordship was owned by the Myddelton family of Chirk Castle.

This collection consists of war diaries, 1916-1918, of the 14th (Service Battalion), Royal Welsh Fusiliers. The diaries, with some entries written in the hand of Major Wynn Wheldon, give a day-to-day chronicle of the activities of the battalion on the Western Front including reports on operations and actions, particulars of casualties, etc.

Nemo (Roparz Hemon, 1900-1978), comprising personal and general correspondence, 1941, 1947-1978; manuscript and typescript drafts of novels and novellas, short stories, poetry and plays; drafts of articles by Roparz Hemon and collected by him as editor of Ar Bed Keltiek; research papers, including notes and transcripts of Breton literary texts; miscellaneous fragments of manuscript and typescript draft translations into English; personal papers, including papers collected by Roparz Hemon or submitted to him by other authors and scholars; notebooks relating to the Breton language, drafts of Breton dictionaries including Geriadur Istorel ar Brezhoneg, and drafts of articles on the Breton language; notes on other Celtic languages, including Irish, Welsh and Manx, and notes on Esperanto; papers relating to organisations of Breton or Celtic interest including Skourr Breizh ar C'hendalc'h Keltiek, the Breton Branch of the Celtic Congress; papers of other Bretons, including Francois Vallée (1860-1949) and Dr Louis Dujardin (1885-1969); and miscellaneous notes and papers, [1940s]-[1950s], chiefly relating to Breton and Irish, mainly in the hand of Anton Ar Roue, cook and gardener to Roparz Hemon.

Constituency correspondence and papers of Ron Davies, 1979-1997, comprising general correspondence on constituency and national affairs, 1983-1997; general constituency papers, 1983-1995; constituents' papers, 1984-1997; subject files from his constituency office and his London office, 1984-1998, including agriculture, the National Health Service and the Welsh language; and papers relating to various pressure groups, 1979-1983.

A further group of correspondence and papers, 1984-97, accumulated by Ron Davies as Labour MP for Caerphilly since 1983, comprising correspondence, constituents' files, and papers relating to a wide range of subjects.

The archive described here comprises papers formerly known as the Roland Mathias MSS (originally placed on deposit at NLW and converted to a donation in 1994), together with donations, 1993-2003. It includes mostly correspondence, and papers relating to The Anglo-Welsh Review, his literary works, and professional career as a teacher and headmaster. Also included is a group of personal and family papers, together with works by Dora Polk.
