This collection comprises account books relating to the erection of the Welsh Calvinistic Chapel at Cwmystwyth, Cardiganshire, 1836; correspondence and papers, 1886-1900, relating to The Cambro-Briton Society, London and to some other aspects of the London Welsh community; material relating to the Welsh Hospital for South Africa, to the National Eisteddfod held in London, 1887, and to preaching activities in Croydon, Enfield, Harrow and Willesden.

Records mainly of the Glamorgan estate of the marquesses of Bute and of their predecessors, the earls of Pembroke. These include letters, 1588-1855, including letters of the Herbert family of Cogan Pill, 1588-1719, but primarily the personal and estate correspondence of John, second marquis of Bute, 1804-1855, (including letters relating to Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire (Kirtling: Lady Bute's property) and County Durham estates); deeds, [1319]-1937; surveys, 1570-1842; rentals of the Glamorgan estate, 1728-1893, and the Cardiff estate, 1842-1895, estate and manorial accounts, 1573-1873; manorial records and deeds of over seventy manors, mainly in Glamorgan, [?1373]-1847; family settlements, [early 17 cent.]-1902; family probate records, 1612-1900; and legal and case papers, 1642-1921; correspondence of Alice, Lady Windsor, 1757-1776; a substantial number of copies of Acts of Parliament, relating mainly to roads, canals, docks and harbours, railways, public works and utilities, 1771-1928; and miscellaneous records. -- The archive illustrates the history of Glamorgan; the corporate life of the boroughs of Cardiff, Cowbridge and Llantrisant; the urbanization of the South Wales valleys, especially Merthyr Tydfil and Aberdare; the Glamorgan Commission of the Peace; the county militia and yeomanry, 1815-1837; the development of the coal and other industries (it includes papers relating to minerals and ironworks 16th-early 20th cent., accounts of coal shipped from Neath, etc. 1626-1682, quarry and lime kiln accounts 19th cent. Cardiff railway, dock and harbour papers and plans, 19th-20th cent.); labour and political unrest, including Chartism, Scotch Cattle, Rebecca riots; early trade unions; and the history of Cardiff castle, 16th-19th cent., including inventories 1581, 1585, estimate of repairs 1590 and plans of grounds.

C. L. J. Humphreys family papers some of which relate to Charles Jones Humphreys, Charles Milward Dovaston Humphreys and Charles Humphreys, comprising family correspondence, probate and related papers, deeds, papers relating to the Pennant estate, [Montgomeryshire], together with genealogical papers, 1712-1958; and the C. L. J. Humphreys deeds and documents comprising twenty-four deeds, 1647-1802, relating to the Thomas and Humphreys families of Pennant concerning properties in the parishes of Betws, Berriew, Llandyssil, Llanmerewig, Newtown and Llanllwchaearn, Montgomeryshire, together with a plan, 1763, relating to the property of Charles Humphreys in the parish of Llandyssil.

Papers of the Rev. C. Tawelfryn Thomas, 1837-1938, comprising letters addressed to him from religious, literary and political figures, 1874-1938, mainly about biographical details of historical and contemporary ministers and poets, eisteddfod competitions, publication of books and articles, including Thomas's own work on Ieuan Gwynedd, the Independent College in Bala, personal matters, preaching engagements and ministers' appointments; stanzas composed by him; and poetry by William Cosslett (Gwilym Elian) and others, 1837-1903.

The archive comprises entirely of deeds and documents, 1446-1934, relating to the Caerhun estate in Anglesey, Caernarfonshire, Denbighshire, and associated estates of Downing, Flintshire, and Llechwedd Garth in Montgomeryshire.

Court rolls (town courts, piepowder courts, courts of the fairs, and great tourn courts), 1361-1402, of the borough of Caernarfon. The rolls were transcribed and translated (with an an introduction) by Gwilym Peredur Jones and Hugh Owen, in Caernarvon Court Rolls 1361-1402 (Caernarvonshire Historical Society Record Series No. 1; Caernarfon, 1951).

Records relating to the traffic movements of Cambrian Airways Ltd, 1958-1978, including business, operating and traffic records, 1959-1978; statistics required by legislation and collected by the Board of Trade, Department of Trade and Industry until 1972 and afterwards by the Civil Aviation Authority, 1960-1979; and day-by-day breakdown of passengers to flights, 1964-1968.

Archive of the Cambrian Coast Line Action Group comprising papers created and collected during the campaign to prevent the closure of the Cambrian Coast railway line between machynlleth and Pwllheli and to improve services an the line along with the archive of the Welsh Railways Action Group, formed in 1971 to co-ordinate between various railway campaigns in wales and to campaign for improvements to the Welsh railway network as a whole and papers and publications relating to local rail campaign groups in west Wales, along the Heart of Wales line and in the Wrexham area.

Documents, 1818-1941, mostly of late-nineteenth century Cardiganshire interest, which were collected by and recovered from the Cambrian newspaper salvage campaign, 1940-1941, comprising miscellaneous items including tradesmen's and business records, personal diaries and note-books, hymn and music books, rules for Cardiganshire miners, a school attendance book, and the account book of a brig.

Papers of the Campaign for Quality Television in Wales, 1988-1993, including correspondence, 1988-1992; minutes of committee meetings, 1989-1991; press cuttings, 1989-1991; and responses to the Government Consultation Document on 'The Future of the BBC', 1993.

The fonds consists of three groups of papers of the Campaign for the Protection of Rural Wales (CPRW), formerly the Council for the Preservation of Rural Wales, and the Council for the Protection of Rural Wales, the first dated 1928-1961, deposited in 1966, the second (papers of the Caernarfonshire branch) dated 1976-1986, deposited in 1986, both of which had been described in a separate, earlier schedule. Both the 1966 group (Records and Classified files), and the third group (starting with General meeting minutes), deposited in 2002, are described here below. The 2002 deposit comprises General Meeting minutes, 1935-1971, Executive Committee minutes, 1935-1989, Finance and General Purposes Committee minutes, 1973-1989, Meetings of Trustees minutes, 1979-1989, and a committee attendance book, 1973-1989.
