Typescript copies of a letter from W. Davies, Llanwryn [co. Montgomery], to Rob[er]t Nelson, Esqr., near the Chappel in Ormond Street, London, 1 March 1711/2 (enclosing a list of subscribers towards one hundred and thirty-four copies [of the translation prepared by the Reverend Thomas Williams (rector of Denbigh, 1697-1726), of recipient's work entitled A Companion for the Festivals and Fasts of the Church of England . . . ( London, 1704), subsequently published as Cydymaith i Ddyddiau Gwylion ac Ymprydiau Eglwys Loegr . . . (Llundain, 1712)], reporting Mr. Pughe's efforts [to obtain subscribers] in the neighbourhood, the disappointing response to Mr. Pughe's efforts in some places, the excuse given by some people, on being asked to subscribe, that they had forgotten or did not understand the [Welsh] language '& that in ye Heart of Wales', a request that the books be sent under cover to W[illia]m Pughe, Esqr., at Mathavarn); a declaration, being the heading for a list of intending subscribers, announcing the intended translation of the aforementioned work, which was to be published at 3/6 a copy, payable to William Bowyer, printer, White Fryars, London, on delivery; and a list of subscribers from Cemmes, Darcowen [sic], Llanbrynmair, Llanfachreth, &., near Dolgelley, Llanidloes, Llanwryn, Llanymowddwy, Machynlleth and Penegoes, Mallwyd, and Towyn parish [cos. Merioneth and Montgomery].
