Nine letters, 1782-1784, from [the Rev.] E[dward] Owen of Warrington, schoolmaster and translator, to John Blackburne, Chester, mainly concerning points of difficulty in translating Classical Latin authors.
Owen comments on the works of Livy (ff. 1, 3 recto-verso, 5 recto-verso, 7 recto-verso), Horace (ff. 9-10, 12) and Catullus (ff. 12-13, 14-15). He also discusses a variety of subjects including Roman land measurement (f. 1 recto-verso), Roman coins (ff. 1 verso, 3 verso-4), Roman numerals (f. 16) and the arrangement of rowers in Roman ships (ff. 16 verso-17). Although apparently living in Chester at this time, John Blackburne's family owned Orford Hall, near Warrington, and he was elected MP for Lancashire in 1784.

Miscellaneous data (typewritten) relating to the parish of Llandwrog, co. Caernarvon, including extracts from a lay subsidy roll, 1663, a hearth tax return, 1664, an assessment for church mise, 1743, and a land tax assessment, 1788; incomplete lists of the rectors, 1652-1936, curates, 1633-1896, and churchwardens, 1739-1812; lists of freeholders, jurors, and electors, mid-sixteenth century - 1794; etc. The whole has been bound in the form of a small booklet.

The archive contains papers created by various officers of, and departments within, the university, along with associations directly related to the university. The archive also includes the university photographic collection.

A further account book, 1976-2000, was received, May 2009.

Letters from Breton cultural and religious leader Jean-Marie (Yann-Vari) Perrot, donated with other papers by Dr Geraint Dyfnallt Owen in 1979, have been incorporated in this group (NLW MS 23322D).
