Records of the Gogerddan estate, Cardiganshire, and the Pryse family, including branches of the family at Glanfred, Ynysgreigiog and Glanmerin,1238-1987. The main group of Gogerddan estate papers comprises rentals, 1719-1931; valuations, 1805-[early 20th cent.]; title deeds, 1332-1930; estate administration records which include agency and tenancy papers, 1810-1925, estate accounts, 1474-1926 (mainly 1850s-1926), building records, 1766-1921, agricultural records, 1796-1922, forestry and timber records, 1816-1923, papers relating to enclosures on Cors Fochno and elsewhere, 1743-1899, hunting, shooting and fishing records, 1804-1943, and household administration records, 1668-1928; estate and general correspondencec, 1586-1924; papers of various agricultural societies, 1815-1924; Cardiganshire lead mining records, 1656-1924; manorial records mainly from Genau’r-glyn, Cardiganshire, and Emlyn Iscych, Pembrokeshire, and a few from Lampeter, 1610-1919; legal papers, 1441-[post-1908]; mortgages and other financial papers, 1577-1926; papers relating to the Cardigan Borough elections and other political papers, [1690]-1880[; county administration papers from Cardiganshire and other counties, 1523-1929; records of institutions such as churches and chapels, schools and charities, 1620-1945; papers relating to roads and railways, 1776-1900; the Pryse family probate records and family settlements, 1549-1950; and personal papers of the family, including Lady Marjorie Pryse, 1641-1987. There are several sub-groups of records from the other estates. The first of these is Abernantbychan, 1416-1918, which includes rentals, 1722-1887and valuations, 1790-[c. 1881]. The other estates comprise Mathafarn, 1403-1754, Aberbechan and Main, 1238-1684, Rug, 1529-1744, and miscellaneous estates which include Peterwell and Nanteos, Cardiganshire, Llanboidy in Carmarthenshire and Montserrat, West Indies, 1562-[c.1887],The BRA deposit consisted of papers mainly from the offices of solicitors, Atwood and Hughes of Aberystwyth, and Boys and Tweedie of London. It included original Gogerddan deeds, together with maps, correspondence, papers relating to enclosures in the manor of Genau’r-glyn, sales and purchases of land, mining and court cases, and papers amassed during administration of the estate after the death of Pryse Loveden in 1855. The material in the BRA Deposit has been amalgamated with the main Gogerddan catalogue, albeit as discrete files for retrieval purposes.Overall, the collection reflects the historical importance of Gogerddan and the Pryse family within Cardiganshire. Several major themes emerge from the estate records: the history of property ownership and building development in the Aberystwyth area, estate work such as land drainage, building improvements, agriculture, forestry, mining, gamekeeping and foxhunting, county politics, and participation in large-scale commercial enterprises such as the railways. The personal papers illustrate the family’s interests and their deep concern over financial issues during the final decline of the Gogerddan estate.

Papers of the Stepney family of Prendergast, Pembrokeshire, and Llanelli, Carmarthenshire, mainly deeds relating to their estates in those counties, 1541-1787, including deeds concerning the working of coal in the Llanelli area of Carmarthenshire in the 17th-18th centuries; and family and business letters, 1706-1829, of the Stepney family including letters relating to the trading enterprises of Sir Thomas Stepney, seventh baronet, 1749-1767, which include letters from the masters of his ships, from other business firms, and from his agents in the main seaports of Wales and England as well as at continental centres of trade, such as Brest and Lisbon. Despite its title, there are no papers relating to the Cilymaenllwyd estate.

Manuscripts and papers, [1601x1937], of or in the possession of the Reverend David Erwyd Jenkins. They largely comprise material of Welsh historical, literary and religious interest, much of which relates to the Calvinistic Methodist movement in Wales during the early nineteenth century and includes transcripts of the letters of the Reverend Thomas Charles and John Jones, Tal-y-sarn. The collection also includes a substantial amount of correspondence addressed to David Erwyd Jenkins.

Records, 1455-1919, of the Lee family of Dinas Powis, Glamorgan, and their predecessors, including rentals of the manor of Dinas Powis and of the Dinas Powis estate, 1610, 1671-1906, surveys of the same, 1566-1610; title deeds, legal papers and correspondence, 1514-1919 (mainly post-1640) relating to properties in Glamorgan, Monmouthshire and Breconshire; records relating to the Friars estate, Glamorgan, of William Hurst, including a survey and rentals, 1777-1786. The archive also includes deeds relating to the estates of the Lords Brooke in Devon, Somerset and Wiltshire.

Over nine hundred portraits, mostly studio, predominantly of First World War era British Soldiers. Most are individual portraits, some are in small groups with family or friends, also large group photographs. Many depicting a Territorial Force summer camp may well be from a 1913 camp held between Bridge and Lovelock farms, Ffairfach in the summer of 1913. The vast majority are anonymous but some can be given approximate dates by the presence of overseas service chevrons, good conduct stripes etc. Many of those dated 1914, especially the Pembroke Yeomanry, may well date from the years preceding the outbreak of WW1. Other portraits are of members of associated services and include veterans of earlier conflicts and servicemen & women from World War Two. The latter category including American troops from the 28th Division who were camped in South Wales from October 1943 until July 1944 as well as Free French and Belgian soldiers. Both US Corps of Engineers and infantry corps are represented. The engineers are believed to be men of the 103rd Engineer Battalion who served with the 28th Division. Their headquarters from October 1943 to April 1944 was the Hotel Belgrave, Tenby. There are also a considerable number of US Quartermaster Corps GI's including African-American soldiers.

Puddicombe (Allen Raine), including manuscripts of her work, [1894x1908] and an eighteenth-century manuscript formerly belonging to her; newspaper cuttings relating to the death of, and the inquest upon, Sarah Jacobs of Llether-noyadd-ucha, Llanfihangel-ar-arth, co. Carmarthen, the Welsh fasting girl, 1869-1870; a copy of Mercvrivs Avlicvs, communicating the intelligence and affairs of the Court, to the rest of the Kingdom. From May to May 11, 1645, recording the victory of General Charles Gerard over Major-General Laugharne before Newcastle Emlyn; and deeds and documents relating to properties in the parish of Laugharne, 1609-1756, and to properties in the counties of Cardigan, Carmarthen, and Pembroke, 1695-1900.
