Speeches, lectures and papers read before the Institution of Civil Engineers, the Institution of Mining Engineers, the South Wales Institute of Mining Engineers, and the Royal Statistical Society on coal-related topics such as the mechanical handling of coal at ports, coal exports, atmospheric conditions in mines, miners' nystagmus, mining warfare, and dust suppression at Sneyd Collieries. In addition, reports on visits to Bwllfa Colliery, Bargoed Colliery & By-Product Plant, Bargoed Power House, Britannia Colliery, Torycoed Colliery, and several Tyne ports. Also included is a copy of the Loyal Address presented by the Coal Owners Association to King George VI and Queen Elizabeth on their visit to Cardiff, as well as a copy of the King's reply.
