The Apis Club’s historical collection was handed over to the Bee Research Association in January 1952 with Mrs. Duruz as its Honorary Secretary. As a result of many items received (including important collections presented by S. W. Gadge, C. T. Overton and L. E. Snelgrove), it was possible to stage the first exhibition in November 1952. Many further gifts were received as a result of this exhibition. In 1953, the collection was housed in the Museum of English Rural Life (MERL), part of Reading University, on a permanent loan. In 1984, MERL needed the space occupied by the collection and IBRA began negotiations with the National Museum of Wales and the Welsh Folk Museum at St Fagans for a permanent home for the collection. The collection comprises around 2,000 artefacts related to bees and beekeeping and is currently (2012) loaned to the International Beekeeping Museum at Eeklo in Belgium.
