An annotated metrical manuscript (2940 lines) entitled 'The Aromatarians Journey into The West of England and Part of Wales by One of the Party. 1787'. Preceding the text is a Dedication 'To The no less Ancient and Venerable than Worshipful Mystery of The Grocery of London' by the Prime Warden, December 1787, and a Preface. The journey comprised Hounslow, Windsor, Bagshot, Frefolk [Freefolk], Andover, Ambresbury [Amesbury], Wilton, Sarum, Woodyeates, Winborn [Wimborne], Merley, Dorchester, Bridport, Axminster, Honiton, Exeter, Chudleigh, Ashburton, Modbury, Ugborough, Mount Edgecomb [Edgecumbe], Plymouth, Ivey-Bridge [Ivybridge], Totnes, Newton-Bushel, Exeter, Columpton [Cullompton], Taunton, Bridgwater, Glassenbury [Glastonbury], Wells, Bath, Bristol, Gloster [Gloucester], Chepstow, Tintern Abbey, Monmouth, Hereford, Ledbury, Colwall, Worcester, Droitwich, Stourport, Tenbury, Bucknel[l], Ludlow, Bishop's Castle, Montgomery, Forden, Newtown, Welsh-Pool [Welshpool], Powis Castle, Shrewsbury, Coalbroke Dale [Coalbrookdale], Broseleys Well, Bridgnorth, Wolverhampton, Soho, Birmingham, Stratford [upon Avon], Woodstock, Blenheim [Palace], Oxford, Henley and Windsor. Inset is a letter, 26 November 1929, from L. Hickman Barnes, Grocers' Hall, Princes Street, E.C.2 to Miss E. M. Williams [of the National Library of Wales, Aberystwyth] informing the recipient that the Prime Warden of the Company in 1787 was Mr Henry Nettleship, who had been elected on 13 July, and that on that date the Court resolved 'that the Master, Wardens & 3 or 4 other Members of the Court be requested to visit the churches of Ugborough & Bucknell, which had been purchased in accordance with the Lady Slaney Trust, also Forden, & the School at Colwall'. The spine is lettered 'MS The Journey'.
